Job Description

Job Summary

As an Assistant Professor of Communication, with teaching competencies in Interpersonal and Intercultural Communication as well as expertise in micro-credentialing and digital badging. Your appointment will be divided between the FGCU Digital Badges Project in the Innovative Education and Partnerships (IEP) and the Communication Program and support the FGCU Complete/8-week course offerings. You will teach at the undergraduate level and work with the IEP on the micro-credentialing and digital badges initiatives with the Assistant Vice-President of IEP. You will also be involved in course and/or curriculum development; conduct research/scholarship/professional development; participate on College and University committees and/or initiatives.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Teaches 9 credit hours (2/1 teaching load) per year of undergraduate courses in Communication curriculum. The remainder of workload will be devoted to working with the university administration on micro-credentialing and digital badging protocols.
  • Prepares syllabi, instruction materials, coordinates lectures, tests, and evaluates
  • Engages in reflective self-assessment of teaching styles and methods to ensure consistently effective instructional performance.
  • Actively serves on university committees.
  • Actively participates in institutional meetings
  • Assists with the development of curriculum
  • Continued professional development activity is expected at a level commensurate with rank and the mission of the University. Community, institutional and professional service in furtherance of FGCU's mission is expected of all faculty.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Chair.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Communication from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline.
  • Demonstrated potential for, or a record of, achievement in teaching undergraduate courses.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate Communication courses, including Interracial/Intercultural Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Gender and Communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Communication from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.
  • Experience with management of the lower division curriculum development and micro-credentialing and digital badging.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with and commitment to the use of instructional technology, a willingness to cultivate an interdisciplinary perspective; and a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued service to the school and university.
