Primary purpose:

The Piping Design Lead will manage the piping design of large or mega industrial facilities. This position will have oversight of specific piping and design areas, working with third party resources including the EPC and technology licensors. The individual ensures technical accuracy in project execution in all project phases, from conceptualization through construction. This role has the responsibility to ensure a cost efficient design and optimize solutions required to maximize modularized equipment to shift construction from the field to fabrication shop.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Provide administrative, technical knowledge, and support of piping and design.
  • Supervise and provide guidance/assistance to internal or external project designers.
  • Develop cost-effective solutions for the execution of the design work.
  • Develop estimates and schedules, staffing requirements and workforce forecasts, and progress reports.
  • Establish and monitor material key quantities; provides analysis and forecasts.
  • Develop and review specifications, including design criteria.
  • Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting.
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines.
  • May have the responsibility to serve as Piping Design Lead on single or multiple assigned projects or perform moderate to difficult complexity design assignments.
  • Collaborate with a variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special projects may be assigned.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Associates degree from an accredited institution in pipeline drafting and design or related discipline, or global equivalent in applicable field of study or twenty (20) years of work-related experience.


Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • Experience in managing piping design for large industrial facilities.
  • Successfully managed 3rd party resources to design and optimize solutions required to maximize modularized equipment to shift construction from the field to fabrication shop.
  • Experience at a large EPC or facility operator that lives in large process industrial facilities space.
  • Experience communicating with various groups that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, EPC Firms, vendors, High Value Engineering Centers, module yards, and construction contractors.
  • Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials.
  • Knowledge of US construction practices and design optimization for construction.
  • Practical field experience at both jobsites and modyards.
  • Advanced proficiency in Smart Plant 3D and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Leading small group of people and multi-national engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state, and Federal/National Codes and statutes and guidelines.
  • Must possess well-developed interpersonal skills to manage, lead, and direct Tallgrass and third-party personnel.
  • Able to analyze financial and cost data and develop conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to accept direction and work effectively & cooperatively with others.
  • Must be goal-orientated, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Must be a problem-solver with the ability to find resolutions.
  • Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines and prioritize work.
  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

Working Conditions:

  • Extensive EPC Interface which may include extended international travel
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • Candidates will be required to clear a drug screen and complete a background check, including a credit report for certain positions after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • None.

Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Preferred experience is in Ammonia and Syngas plants and facilities, Ammonia storage and Marine terminal background a plus.
