Position Overview:

The Fabrication Technician is a fast paced job. The individual must be a quick learner and must be able to respond quickly to a wide array of situations. The Technician is required to communicate with Coaches, Planners and Managers to ensure the various production demands are met. The Technician is responsible for communicating the various tooling requirements to Manufacturing Engineering. The goal for the Technician is to maintain a safe and efficient work environment while providing assistance where needed. Provide routings and labor standards for standard and special parts. Recommend tools and fixtures to be provided for needed operations. The result will be fabrication parts that have correct routings, standard time estimates for much better shop floor control and visibility to the users.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operation and scheduling of laser (80% of job)
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Identify punch needs for NC punch cell
  • Correct generic and standard routings.
  • Correct standard time estimates on fab. Parts.
  • Identify tools and fixtures needed to effectively produce the parts/products and communicate those requirements to the appropriate mfg. engineer.
  • Support the team process.
  • Look for and identify better ways to produce the parts/products to improve productivity and quality.
  • All work done in a timely manner to avoid delays in production.
  • Provide feedback to Quoting and Custom Engineering on problems with designs and time estimates.

Position Requirements:

Must have a good understanding of sheet metal processing; including fabrication and assembly. Good print reading skills a requirement along with the ability to recognize how to build products by looking at drawings. Must be PC literate and familiarity with Knapheide products is a plus. Formal technical schooling is preferred. Must have at least 5 years of industrial sheet metal experience. Ability to work in a fast paced environment with frequent time deadlines is a requirement.

Physical/Mental Requirements Needed to Perform Essential Functions of the Position:

Normal standing, bending, walking and lifting in an office environment. Must have the ability to verbally communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
