About the Job

The Department of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota occasionally needs lecturers to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. Openings of this kind sometimes occur for teaching evening courses as well as day courses. The courses include introductory and survey courses, as well as upper-division courses. Courses to be taught depend on the department's teaching needs. These positions are temporary and part time.

This does not constitute a posting for vacancies, but establishes a pool of applicants should openings occur during the 2023/24 academic year. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis during the academic year. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Job Duties

Teach undergraduate classes as determined by the department chair and the Director of Undergraduate studies. Oversee teaching assistants and course administration as needed. Provide service to the department as appropriate.

Qualifications

LECTURER

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Economics or a closely-related field.
  • Minimum two years' teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualifiations

  • Knowledge in course content area.
  • Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Specific teaching need within the department

TEACHING SPECIALIST

Required Qualifications

  • MA degree or BA/BS degree plus four years of post-baccaluareate education in an advanced degree program in Economics or a closely-related field.
  • MInimum two years' teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge in course content area.
  • Evidenct of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Specific teaching need within the department.
