Stanley Consultants is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our Chicago, Illinois team.

  • Support experienced engineers on a variety of infrastructure projects, including transportation, storm water, and civil site design, perform quantities calculations, prepare construction specifications, and deliver post design services as necessary.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Lead drainage design effort and coordinate with other disciplines on complex projects.
  • Prepare Phase II engineering plans and specifications for stormwater management facilities, including detailed design calculations and modeling.
  • Perform Phase I stormwater management studies, including Location Drainage Studies, Hydraulic Reports, and Conceptual Drainage Studies.
  • Utilize hydraulics and hydrology modeling software to analyze and evaluate the impacts of various proposed improvements.
  • Design, analyze, and review grading plans, tributary areas, flow calculations, detention pond sizing, release rates, storm sewer and culvert capacities, and other site civil design elements.
  • Direct field studies, surveys, and data collection necessary to develop drainage concepts and construction documents.
  • Prepare and secure various permits including stormwater, floodplain, and wetland impacts.
  • Assist project managers in scoping and estimating drainage tasks, providing technical expertise and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals, scope of services, and contract cost estimates for drainage projects.
  • Mentor and provide technical direction to junior engineering staff.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires an Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with hydraulics and hydrology modeling software such as FHWA Hydraulic Toolbox, HY-8, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, XPSWMM, Open Flows, and WinTR-55.
  • Requires experience with Illinois DOT, Illinois Tollway, and local agency drainage design requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Relevant experience permitting projects through IDNR-OWR, IEPA, and USACE.
  • Proficiency with Microstation and OpenRoads.
  • Experienced in and fully capable of using the Microsoft software suite including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Knowledge of or capability to learn virtual collaboration tools such as ProjectWise.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable to evolving client, project, and industry needs.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Licensed Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).
  • Experience with local stormwater and watershed development ordinances and permitting.
  • Experience with SRH-2D, Sedimentation and River Hydraulics modeling.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil3D.
