Primary Responsibilities

HDR is currently seeking to hire a Control Systems Designer/EIT for our Missoula, MT office. This individual's primary function will be to serve on a team that supports our national Control Systems practice which includes full-service capabilities and supports clients in multiple industries and market sectors providing control system assessment, planning, design, automation programming/configuration, testing & commissioning, and maintenance.

The Control Systems Designer/EIT will work with a Senior Control Systems Engineer and participate in the design of complex Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, assisting with the evaluation and selection of equipment and system components. This position requires coordination with multidiscipline design teams, and participation in the development of SCADA/I&C construction documents for projects in multiple market sectors including tech, media & telecom, oil & gas; food & beverage; logistics; manufacturing; mining; industrial, transportation; and water/wastewater.

Responsibilities/Duties include

  • Travel to client facilities to participate in field activities to assess and document the current state of installed control systems.
  • Assist with the selection and specification of process instrumentation, control panels, and network equipment.
  • Assist with the development of biddable and technically accurate SCADA/I&C construction documents including P&IDs, network architecture diagrams, control panel layouts and wiring diagrams, installation details, loop drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Assist with development of PLC programs and HMI applications.
  • Assist with system testing and commissioning activities.

This person may also be involved in coordination during construction phases including the review of shop drawings and to participate in field observation on an as needed basis. This individual should be self-motivated with attention to detail and an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound I&C designs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • EIT or ability to obtain within 12 months. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Control Systems Designer" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion of a task
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • AutoCAD P&ID experience a plus
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)/Distributed Control System (DCS) programming or SCADA HMI configuration experience a plus
  • Preference given to local candidates
  • Hands on experience designing I&C systems, including P&IDs, schematics, and loop drawings a plus
  • Knowledge and/or experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs and SCADA/HMI software a plus

The expected compensation range for this position is $60,000-$80,000 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles are eligible for limited benefits.)
