The Stormwater Team focuses on developing drainage and water quality solutions for new and retrofit stormwater facilities. Our work spans all project phases from preliminary and conceptual planning, alternative analysis and selection, to design and construction, We prepare stormwater management plans, work with agencies to prioritize storm and water quality improvements, design stormwater collection and conveyance systems, water quality infrastructure, erosion control plans, design flood mitigation, Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) and Low Impact Development (LID) solutions, fish passage and stream restoration.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Water Resources Senior Engineer (Stormwater), you'll be responsible for taking a lead role in stormwater engineering planning and design, stormwater regulatory and permitting, preparation of technical reports, and developing hydrologic and hydraulic models for a wide range of public and private development projects. You will work collaboratively with other design disciplines to provide integrated solutions and develop business opportunities. This role reports to and works closely with the Stormwater Business Class Lead, and works with the transportation, fisheries, and other water resources groups.

The Stormwater Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the stormwater studies and designs for a wide variety of projects including:
    • Transportation and highways
    • Large and small site development
    • Public works stormwater infrastructure development
    • Green stormwater infrastructure (GSI)
    • Best management practices (BMPs) for water quality treatment
    • Low-impact development
  • Perform watershed and water quality assessments and BMP prioritization
  • Developing of regional, and comprehensive stormwater management plans
  • Lead and coordinate with multidisciplined teams to develop stormwater plans, specifications, and technical reports
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and professionals
  • Prepare materials for and lead presentations
  • Prepare hydrologic and hydraulic stormwater/drainage models
  • Engineering report and memo preparation
  • Mentor and train junior staff
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydraulics, Water Resources, or a related field from an accredited four year college or university
  • Professional Engineer license (PE)
  • Minimum of ten (10) years' of work experience required specific to the position described.
  • Experienced in managing projects and in working with clients
  • Ability to function as an active team player in a diverse, multidisciplinary environment
  • Expertise with Washington State (and local agency) stormwater manuals, regulatory requirements and industry practice
  • Familiarity with DOT and other stormwater design guidelines
  • Experience in coordinating, managing, and working with multidisciplinary projects and staff
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger project team
  • Experience in the design and management of a wide variety of transportation, public works, and site development stormwater projects
  • Experience in alternative and conceptual drainage and stormwater infrastructure design
  • Experience in developing Low Impact Development (LID) design solutions
  • Experience with stormwater hydrologic and hydraulic drainage design.
  • Proficient with stormwater design software such as XPSWMM, HEC-RAS, StormCAD, WWHM, MGSFlood or HY8.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19. This position requires onsite client visits, or, this position will be co-located at the client site. The client requires all contractors/consultants/vendors who work or visit the site be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS and LiDAR data preferred
  • LEED professional or accreditation as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is a plus.

Typical starting pay range for this position is $94,497 - $163,415 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
