The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office seeks a service-oriented Deputy District Attorney I (THREE vacancies) who is ready to take on a wide range of prosecution cases while developing their litigation skills through learned experience in a courtroom setting and support from their colleagues. They will champion the mission of the DA’s Office to uphold the law by vigorously and impartially prosecuting crimes, preserving public safety, protecting victims’ rights, holding criminal offenders accountable, and pursuing justice for all with skill, dignity, and honor. THE JOB
The Deputy District Attorney I (Attorney) will work within the District Attorney’s Office to prosecute a wide range of cases. While many of the cases they will work on are misdemeanors, such as DUI, DWS, petty theft, assault, and domestic violence charges, they will also have the opportunity to work on felonies as they progress in this role. The Attorney will conduct witness interviews, legal research, investigate information, and prepare legal documents. Along with preparing for court cases and litigating in court, this role also involves administrative duties, such as arraignment, grand jury, and pre-trial tasks. This role regularly works with law enforcement personnel, victims, and the public to answer questions and provide information regarding legal principles and the court process. While selected candidates will bring the ability to hit the ground running, they will also undergo training and receive support in order to successfully conduct their cases.

Demonstrating a strong moral compass and a commitment to ethical behavior are also vital for success in this role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • Member in good standing of the State Bar of Oregon or pending Bar results.
    • The Oregon State Bar offers reciprocity for attorneys who have passed a bar exam in a reciprocal jurisdiction, are active members in that jurisdiction, and have been lawfully engaged in the active, substantial, and continuous practice of law for at least five of the seven years immediately preceding the application for admission.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work irregular hours, often involving court cases.
  • Candidates who receive a contingent job offer must pass a background check and drug screening, including for marijuana.
