Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications
* Master's degree earned by start date
* One to three years of experience working in college housing. Two years of GA experience is equivalent to one year full-time.
License/Certification Required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in College Student Development, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field
  • Full-time experience working in college housing
  • Experience working with Maxient and/or StarRez software
  • Crisis and case management experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administration
  • Work closely with students and the Housing Administration staff regarding room changes, consolidations, occupancy reports, withdrawals, etc.
  • Assist in ensuring mid year student moves are processed correctly by building staff and damages are assessed and charged through Student and Administrative Services.
  • Complete summer responsibilities including, but not limited to summer school, key audits, orientation, and special projects.
  • Assist in the implementation of housing assessment related to departmental recruitment, on boarding, and facilities related issues.
  • Serve on departmental and divisional committees, workgroups, and task forces and assist with facilitation of special projects that happen in residence halls as needed.
  • Along with the Residence Life staff team, develop and assist in achieving University Housing department goals.
  • Discuss, implement and evaluate policy-making decisions affecting Residence Life.
  • Attend staff training and professional development events in University Housing and The Division of Student Affairs
  • Attend and participate in Residence Life meetings.
  • Meet weekly with the supervising Assistant Director of Residence Life.
  • Develop and complete a professional development plan.
  • Perform work as delegated by the Associate Director of Residence Life and supervisor.

Supervision
  • Supervises staff throughout the year
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings with staff
  • Provide on-going staff training and development.
  • Ensure expectations are being met by staff and address concerns through developmental job action/coaching conversations when appropriate
  • Complete formal evaluations of staff once each semester.
  • Coordinate all Service Desk operations related to residential student packages, room keys, and staff event requests.
  • Oversee the two Program Resource Centers for the 150 student staff members.
  • Work with the Administrative Services unit on incorporating StarRez System at both Service Desks for keys and packages.
  • Work with Facilities on monthly key audits of desks and 18 residence halls.
  • Oversee the RA programming equipment (gaming systems, board games, program supplies) checkouts.
  • Track student lost keys and provide information to Administrative Services to appropriately bill students

Facilities Management
  • Serve as liaison with Facilities related to building maintenance, day-to-day issues, preventative maintenance, emergency maintenance, construction and planning and projects
  • Directly oversee all residence hall opening/closing processes in conjunction with departmental leadership, hall staff and campus constituents and coordinate the damage billing process
  • Assist/Lead housing staff in organizing and implementing transition periods between university breaks.
  • Assist in the coordination of policies and procedures related to the check in, check out, early arrival and late stay request processes.
  • Responsible for key audit process and training necessary staff on completing monthly key audits
  • Serve as primary communication for emergency moves for students. Ensure emergency spaces are turned over and in good condition. Work closely with students impacted throughout the process.
  • Build relationships and maintain contact with building maintenance staff, housekeeping staff, support services staff, and building supervisors.
  • Assist Facilities Coordinator in completing fire drills for halls including recruiting student staff to assist, communicating with students, and logging appropriately.
  • Assist with summer staff apartment occupancy and transitions. Responsible for inventory, damage billing, pet forms, and working with Support Services to develop/maintain a staff apartment furniture inventory/rotation.

Recruitment and Selection
  • Assist the Assistant Director with the selection and recruitment of all student staff members.
  • Assist with the selection and recruitment of graduate student staff members through involvement with the Graduate Assistant Preview Program.
  • Implement different marketing and recruitment strategies for Resident Assistant and Graduate Assistant recruitment efforts.

Crisis Management
  • Schedule and facilitate student break duty and special event duty.
  • Provide leadership to staff and students during crises in the residence hall and in the greater campus community.
  • Become familiar with and follow institutional and departmental guidelines regarding emergencies
  • Serve in on-call rotation for campus of 6,200 students to support staff emergency response during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Residence Education, Conduct, and Wellness
  • Create, review and edit on-call, crisis response, and other documents under the direction of the Associate Director of Residence Life.
  • Serve as a hearing officer for student conduct cases related to facilities concerns
  • Clearly communicate, interpret and enforce department and university policies to staff and students.
  • Serve as a resource or referral for information concerning University life.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with campus partners.
