Ketjen Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Albemarle Corporation, is seeking aManufacturing Process Engineer to work in the Catalyst Process Technology Group at our Bayport Facility. This group develops and champions projects for continuous improvement in refinery catalyst manufacturing.

Responsibilities include:

  • This role has responsibility for the process engineering aspects of studies, pre-projects (basic engineering), project implementation (detailed engineering) and commissioning & start-up in relation to change and expansion projects for all production facilities on site. Preparation of front-end design and economics for new products / processes.

  • Provide technical mentorship, coaching and developmental opportunities for team members.

  • Serve as process licensor providing technical support for fundamental modifications to processes in the plant.

  • Act as opportunity leader for site capital projects working with and leading other engineers and stakeholders to develop process design scope packages for debottlenecking efforts, increases in plant capacity, operability improvements, HS&E improvements, etc. This can include leading and directing the efforts of other engineers working on the project.

  • Analyze existing process problems and define robust and innovative solutions and improvement with limited oversight.

  • Collaborate with chemists and other engineers/scientists to scale up processes from bench to pilot to commercial scale and to select the optimal process technology for each process step.

  • Participate in troubleshooting of significant process issues, as needed.

  • Actively contributing to the innovation and ideation process through the development and justification of new project proposals.

  • Report writing, presentations, project management, and potentially supervision responsibilities.

Basic Requirements

  • B.S. Chemical Engineering

  • Strong safety mindset.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in an operating plant environment or process design group.

  • Broad practical knowledge concerning design and operation of common process equipment such as pumps, blowers, heat exchangers, piping, etc.

  • Basic instrumentation knowledge (e.g. level, flow, pressure, etc.) and ability to convey process information to SMEs to make optimal selections.

  • Ability to develop process control narrative specifying system function and controls for complex process systems controlled by DCS or PLC.

  • Basic knowledge of inorganic chemistry

  • Ability to develop process and project economic calculations

  • Proven record of working successfully with personnel at all levels of a manufacturing organization.

  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills.

  • Proven examples of developing innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • Initiative, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing projects leading to significant improvements in cost, quality, HS&E, capacity or operability.

  • Batch operations experience

  • Experience in process scale up

  • Experience in start-up and commissioning of new process equipment

  • Program / project leadership experience.
