Geosyntec Consultants is seeking a highly motivated, organized Sustainability Analyst or Environmental Scientist to join our team in Santa Barbara, California. The selected candidate will both support and manage projects that include environmental assessments, groundwater remediation, water resources, geotechnical construction, and more, while also learning and expanding the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Supporting greenhouse gas inventory and life-cycle analysis projects with data management and quantitative analysis;
  • Analyzing the sustainability impacts of technology choices for remediation projects using SiteWise;
  • Designing, developing, and managing project-specific relational database applications using desktop (MS Access) and enterprise (MS SQL Server, EQuIS) database software;
  • Developing comprehensive workflows and metadata to automate compilation of data from multiple sources and serve data to maps, reports and other tools;
  • Compiling, verifying, analyzing, and reporting large and diverse datasets;
  • Improving workflows and process efficiency using programming languages (e.g. R, Python, VBA);
  • Interacting with internal and external providers to coordinate collection and transfer of data to project databases; and
  • Interacting with internal and external clients to support database management and data visualization for environmental engineering, geoscience, stormwater, and sustainable groundwater management projects.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental sciences, natural science or a related field. (required)
    • Bachelor's degree in environmental-related field with strong coursework in analytics OR Bachelor's degree in environmental-related field with strong professional experience in analytics
  • Master's Degree in environmental sciences, natural science or a related field with strong experience in analytics (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years of related experience, including experience with life cycle assessment (LCA) and/or carbon accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: R, SQL, Python, or Matlab (required)
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and/or MS Access, including the ability to write complex formulas and visualize data effectively. (required)
  • Exceptional attention to detail in quantitative work products, written communication, spelling, and grammar. (required)
  • Constantly seeks self-development to acquire new skills and optimize workflows and processes (required)
  • Experience with Power BI dashboarding and/or Observable. (preferred)
  • Experience with Environmentally Extended Input-Output LCA (EEIO-LCA) methods. (preferred)
  • Experience with greenhouse gas reporting platforms such as CDP. (preferred)
  • Experience with SQL Server Data Management Studio. (preferred)
  • Experience with Earthsoft EQuIS data management platform. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with environmental analytical data. (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of database structure, query design, and maintenance. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

  • Ability to talk to and engage clients in business development and willingness to learn new business development skills.

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Based on state and federal requirements, this position may be hourly and overtime-eligible or salaried eligible for straight-time overtime. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Wage: $23.90/hour or $64,480/year / Maximum Wage: $31.00/hour or $76,715/year (Santa Barbara)
