Primary Responsibilities

HDR is looking for a Civil Engineering Team Manager to join our South Atlantic Area Resources Group's Renewables team. The preferred location for this position is in either HDR's Charlotte-NC or Raleigh-NC office, with consideration also given to HDR's Charleston-SC, Columbia-SC, Atlanta-GA, and Greenville-SC locations. This individual will be expected to be a senior leader and mentor staff within our Renewables team, which supports utility-scale solar projects throughout the Southeast. They would also collaborate with civil engineers in HDR's Power Delivery and Power Generation sections as well as our Building Engineering Services business group. They will be responsible for coordinating with a civil engineering design staff supporting the Renewables and Power Generation program, including mentoring, staff development, forecasting, scheduling, quality control, and fostering a team environment. In addition to staff management responsibilities, the Civil Engineering Team Manager will also function as a technical lead on site development projects, coordinate with other disciplines across HDR, lead the development of construction drawings/specifications, support engineering calculations, and lead the review of shop drawings during construction. They will be directly involved with external clients as well as internal project managers, market sector leads, business group managers, and other leaders throughout HDR. They will be expected to help implement, monitor, and support company policies. On a day-to-day basis they will also be expected to:

* Build team technical expertise and design production capacity through recruitment, staff development and training

* Lead and mentor civil engineering staff

* Participate in leadership for technical service functions and support the development of HDR services in site civil planning and design

* Prepare proposals including scope development and estimating hours/fee

* Travel regionally/nationally as-needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline

  • PE license

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in site development and civil design; this must include experience in site layout (ordinance review and vehicle turning movements), grading, storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control

  • Renewables and substation development permitting experience, including the ability to research ordinance and regulatory requirements, develop plans within local permitting requirements, coordinate with permitting review agencies, and successfully obtain all site development permits required to commence construction

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and planning skills, and the ability to thrive in a team environment

  • Ability to manage, lead and mentor other team members

  • Strong operating knowledge of Civil 3D

  • Strong knowledge of modeling software such as Hydraflow Storm Sewers, Hydraflow Hydrographs, HydroCAD, Bentley StormCAD, etc.

  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture
