HDR is looking for a Transmission Engineering Section Manager to join our growing Southeast Power Delivery team in either Charlotte or Raleigh, NC. The Transmission Engineering Section Manager will focus on Transmission structural design, and be responsible for the execution of technical aspects and deliverables of projects assigned. They must be a dynamic leader who can understand and complete all technical requirements of projects from basic to moderate complexity while leading and growing the team of engineers and designers on staff. They will be required to support growth of the Transmission team and assign tasks to junior level staff and provide technical mentorship to the team. They will be responsible for the coordination and assignment of quality control reviews for work performed by junior level engineers and/or designers. They will work with Senior Engineers and Business Class Leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise, and will attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline. They may also assist with developing technical papers and presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events. They must also be self-motivated, and able to work independently in order to lead, direct, mentor, and supervise efforts of less-experienced EIT's and Designers. They will establish strong client relationships in the region and an in-depth understanding of the clients' business objectives to determine the most effective execution strategies, then build local teams and leverage existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world class service to those clients. They will also be expected to manage individual projects within their technical expertise. On a day to day basis, they'll also be expected to:

  • Be responsible for monitoring, growing and participating in the execution of HDR's portfolio of Power Delivery services throughout the South Atlantic (NC/SC/GA) Area

  • Work with leadership to attract and retain quality staff by providing development and growth opportunities

  • Assist regional and national leadership in growing the Power Delivery program by developing new clients, enhancing our position with existing clients and implementing our long-term strategy in the market

  • Participate in the development of strong client relationships and serve as a key client manager for selected clients

  • Provide technical leadership/project management to ensure projects have appropriate staff and that the quality program is implemented effectively

  • Manage key projects or programs, including managing technical staff and sub-consultant teams to meet project delivery needs and exceed client expectations

  • Participate in Power Delivery marketing efforts, communications and client development with business, operations, marketing and project staff to maximize client satisfaction, company growth and profitability

  • Work with marketing staff on Resources Business Group pursuits and coordinate marketing activities with other Business Group leads

  • Work with local and regional operations and national leadership to build capabilities through recruitment and staff training

  • Encourage and participate in business and community activities as representative of HDR

  • Assist with the development of technical papers and or presentations that showcase HDR's capabilities and industry experience

  • Be responsible for quality control reviews in accordance with HDR policy

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related technical discipline required

  • Minimum of 8 years of Transmission design experience required; this should include specific experience performing structural analysis of towers/poles and providing permit support

  • Ability to travel is required

  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of PLSCAD, AutoCAD, and MS Office

  • Proven track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, department, technical managers, and project staff

  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values

  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE preferred or actively pursuing PE within one year of employment

  • 10 years preferred

  • Experience and client relationships in Southeast preferred

  • Client management, marketing, and business development skills in addition to contacts and relationships with power delivery clients preferred

  • Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts and hiring staff for an engineering consulting firm preferred

  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired

  • Experience with Alternative Delivery Methods (EPC and DBB) preferred

  • Local candidates are preferred
