For additional information on CORE, please visit our website: www.medicine.yale.edu/core The Associate Director, Data Management and Analytics (DM&A), is responsible for managing and growing a team of professional statisticians and data managers in developing and implementing strategies to support the analytic needs of CORE grants and contracts. Reporting to the Director, Healthcare Analytics, this individual provides direction on statistical analyses performed by the team, by modeling workflow, terminology, business rules and specification of technology requirements utilized in research. Also uses knowledge of statistical theory, health services research, technical skills, including broader and business operations, to make recommendations to bring best practices to CORE projects, champions high standards and cutting-edge analytic approaches, and assists with shaping COREs capabilities toward future work, talents, and clients. Functions at a high level in a multi-disciplinary team environment, is a problem solver and strong communicator, and demonstrates leadership. The list of accountabilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties that management may deem necessary from time to time. The duties of this position can be carried out remotely if this meets the business need of CORE. Flexible work schedules and telecommuting are available if needed and /or desired.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Administrative: a) Manages and mentors professional level statisticians and analysts engaged in various levels of programming and data analysis that includes data ingestion, curation, analysis and reporting for publications and technical reports. b) Provides direction on the design, analysis plan, and reporting of information on CORE projects according to the business plan. c) Is a member of COREs Leadership and Management teams. d) Supports new business development and new business opportunities. e) Supports the articulation and implementation of data analytics capabilities and methodologies. f) Adheres to YNHH managerial responsibilities, trainings, and attendance at required management meetings. g) Develops and approves the CORE-wide data management policy and procedures document to ensure compliance with Yale University and Yale New Haven Hospital information security regulations as well as funder's data use agreements. At minimum this is an annual responsibility.
  • 2. Project Management: a) Under the direction of the of the Director, Health Analytics, actively contributes to the project management activities of assigned projects and holds responsibility and accountability for assigned work contributing to the success of the project. b) Develops, designs, and helps to oversees all data management activities for CORE including data acquisition, data integration, data validation, data analysis and data reporting. c) Analyze and resolve issues that have potential to jeopardize agreed upon deliverables. d) Lead the development, validation, and implementation of research data systems. e) Contribute to lessons learned as routine part of project lifecycle.
  • 3. Analytics: a) Perform data analyst functions that generate knowledge via data mining, visualization or other analytics. Serve as a resource to others performing this work. Lead the creation of best practices, resources and tools that enable new analytical capabilities. b) Assist investigators in preparation of research grant and proposal applications by writing research methods sections pertaining to study design, statistical approach, analysis, relevance and validity of data.
  • 4. Technical: a) Works as part of an integrated team of researchers, biostatisticians, programmers and staff to identify testable hypotheses, devise suitable statistical analysis plans, and carry out statistical analyses, summarize and present findings to investigators. b)Helps other research professionals with carrying out comprehensive statistical analyses and contributing to publications and presentations in scientific journals and meetings. c) Provides technical writing for grants and contract documents, reports and manuscripts. d) Helps to oversee the analytic needs and approaches for all CORE projects to ensure the customer's project is underpinned by effective experimental design, analysis and interpretation of results. e) Uses knowledge of statistics, programming and business operations to bring best practices and champion high standards to CORE projects. f) Under the direction of the of the Director, Healthcare Analytics, is responsible for CORE data security in compliance with Yale New Haven Hospital /Health System, Yale University and funding agency policies.
  • 5. Research: a) Design and perform formal evaluation of statistics and informatics methods and products and report findings that can be generalized to the broader community.
  • 6. Training: a) Educate internal and external partners on the value, role and methodology provided by Statistics and biomedical informatics. b) Maintain working knowledge of statistics and biomedical informatics, including technology, standards, systems and methodologies used in health care and research. c) Assist in conducting training sessions for internal and external staff on a regular basis; present at conferences and/or publish in peer reviewed journals. d) Contribute to department training and development infrastructure including identification of training needs and ensure that training reflects local and industry standards. e) Train and mentor staff and investigators in analytic methods.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Master of Science in statistics, biostatistics or bioinformatics required. Doctorate in statistics, biostatistics or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE

5 to 7 years of experience in statistical analysis of health outcomes research data required and prior experience managing/supervising/mentoring a group of data analysts. Proficiency in key statistical techniques (predictive modeling such as linear regression, logistic regression, Poisson regression and survival analysis, design of experiments, hierarchical modeling, Bayesian analysis, Machine learning methods, and other advanced statistical techniques) required. Proficient in SAS and R programming and in analysis of large clinical and administrative claims databases required. Extensive experience with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) administrative claims data and big data analytics preferred. Hands-on experience with clinical data preferred. Experience working with strict timelines and deliverables on government contracts preferred. Other experience includes demonstrated technical experience, excellent writing and verbal communication skills, and demonstrated competencies in analytical skills. Prior management and mentorship experience. Demonstrated experience collaborating with other government contractors or independent non-government agencies that support outcomes measure work preferred.
