What you will be responsible for:

Using discretion and judgment, the Manager - Investor Systems has a leadership role in developing systems technology projects that address the business needs of the portfolio management and investment compliance departments. They champion agile best practices and our system-development life cycle (SDLC) while working to release projects and maintenance items for the benefit of our clients, compliance, and investors. The Manager - Investor Systems works closely with product owners, scrum masters, delivery teams, external vendors and internal IT resources to ensure technology teams are closely aligned with business needs.They manage assigned personnel, which may include full-time employees, co-ops, interns, contractors and offshore resources.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages a dynamic team of business systems analysts and/or developers; makes decisions regarding hiring, training and development. Conducts performance appraisals and reviews for assigned resources. Recommends salary changes and promotions. Provides feedback to team members both formally and informally
  • Coaches team members on best practices, resolution management and effective communication.
  • Identifies areas where new technologies can be leveraged to create enhanced customer service or improve operational efficiencies. Initiates steps to improve deficient areas.
  • As a business architect, may perform analysis of business activities to determine business requirements. Works with investment and compliance users to understand and define needs above and beyond requirements provided by the business. Converts business requirements into functional specifications.
  • Works to ensure a positive end product for business stakeholders by overseeing the implementation of new software. Ensures the creation of proper training materials and business documentation.
  • Works to ensure agile teams are delivering a positive end product for business stakeholders. Ensures the creation of proper training materials and business documentation.
  • Provides superior application and production support as needed to the investment and compliance departments and systems that they use. Works with business partners and other IT departments to resolve questions, assess user needs, and recommend solutions.
  • Actively mentors team members and other members of the IT organization.
  • Represents the department at meetings where direction for general MFS initiatives is discussed and decided.
  • Participates in architectural discussions with development teams.
  • Formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and an understanding of investment and operations systems and industry requirements. Helps to standardize processes across projects and departments.
  • Assists with strategic planning of department's initiatives and resources and with developing long-range roadmaps for investment and operational system upgrades.
  • Identifies organization's strengths and weaknesses and suggests areas of improvement in order to reduce risk, leverage existing technologies, reduce costs, and provide better service and overall experience to our clients.
  • Work to ensure resources are properly utilized while maintaining a healthy work-life balance for the team.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in a business or technology related field.
  • Minimum of 6-8+ years' experience in the financial services industry supporting buy-side technology.
  • Previous experience supporting portfolio managers and/or investment compliance personnel, ideally using CRIMS and/or PORT, preferred.
  • Previous management experience, ideally in an agile environment, preferred.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and business knowledge. Excellent technical understanding of underlying relevant technical architecture and investment business processes.
  • Proven ability to maximize resources and communicate with others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience designing and delivering presentations and training to diverse audiences, including senior management, clients and groups that may blend technical and non-technical participants.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to make independent decisions.
  • Excellent understanding of systems development lifecycle.
  • In-depth technical and functional understanding of investment and operations applications. Ability to perform detailed analysis on these systems at all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Ability to consider the business implications of the application of technology to the current and future business environment.
  • Proven ability to develop creative solutions to meet business needs.
