Description

The GSE Mechanic Apprentice gains experience and knowledge to be a GSE Mechanic through on the job training which may be combined with a trade program or other schooling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

1. Trained to receive work orders and obtains the necessary tools required for the repair.
2. Transports the vehicle(s) to be repaired by driving, towing or pushing vehicle into service bay. Vehicles may consist of tugs, forklifts, pay loaders, and other larger airport vehicles.
3. Through training and guidance:
- Learn to inspects parts and/or motor vehicles to identify defective or
broken parts.
- Repairs diesel engines, hydraulic, electric, and mechanical
systems.
- How to change batteries, tires, oil, and other minor repairs.
4. Obtains replacement parts, installing and/or making repairs as required. Repairs may require assisting with rebuilding assemblies, systems, etc.
5. Confers with manager or GSE mechanics for complex repairs, which require direction or approval for ordering of parts.
6. Completes work orders and provides status on any "open" work orders as instructed, with or without support.
7. All other duties as assigned by the GSE Manager to provide the necessary training, skills, and knowledge to advance to a GSE Mechanic.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, 5-year background check, 10-year criminal history check and security threat assessment.
* High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
* Must possess a Valid Hawaii Driver's License.
* Knowledge in repair of heavy-duty diesel/automotive equipment,
electrical and hydraulic systems, welding, fabricating, auto body and paint highly desirable but not required as long as the incumbent is willing and
* Must have own tools and be able to operate various power and hand tools safely.
Other Qualifications:
* Able to learn such duties within a reasonable amount of time.
* If enrolled in a program, applicants must maintain passing grades to remain in the company apprentice program, applicants that receive a lower than a "C" grade will be placed on probation- if a second lower than "C" grade is received in the same subject, the apprentice will separate from the program.

Compensation

This position starts at $20.17 per hour.
