Cornell University embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports students, faculty and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply.

Applications are sought for a postdoctoral fellow position in Putnam Lab at Cornell University. The position is joint between the Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering and the Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. One key attribute for the position is that the postdoctoral fellow will be immersed in the process through which functional biomaterials are developed and translated into the clinic (i.e., start-up companies, scale-up synthesis, process validation, biocompatibility analysis, FDA regulations, financing models, IP portfolio design, etc.)

The successful applicant will play a central role in the interactions among different labs and colleges. Applicants are not expected to have expertise in entrepreneurship, but do need to have a strong interest in learning entrepreneurship skills and methods. This will be a one-year appointment, with annual extension possible based on satisfactory performance.

Required Qualifications: * PhD or equivalent degree in polymer/organic chemistry completed by the start of the position * A willingness/ability to work with animal models of disease * Strong writing skills * Desire and ability to author manuscripts and grant proposals in high-quality English * Strong desire to impact human health through the commercialization of functional biomaterials

Logistics: * Employer: Cornell University * Location: Ithaca, NY * Start Date: Immediately * Application Deadline: None, though applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. * Length of Appointment: 1 year with potential for annual renewal with satisfactory performance * Time commitment: Full Time
