About Us

At HDR, we specialize in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well-known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high-performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we provide much more than that. We create an unshakable foundation for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include scientists, economists, builders, analysts and artists. That's why we believe diversity is our greatest strength. HDR is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer.

Watch Our Story:

We believe that the way we work can add meaning and value to the world. That ideas inspire positive change. That coloring outside the lines can illuminate fresh perspectives. And that small details yield important realizations. Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.

HDR is looking for a Geotechnical Engineer in one of our four NC offices (Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, or Wilmington, NC). They will typically work under and with Senior Geotechnical staff and be responsible for the geotechnical analysis and design or the interpretation and understanding of subsurface conditions of infrastructure projects including but not limited to roadways, retaining walls, bridges, buildings, dams, soils and rock slopes, etc. Opportunities exist to participate on high profile infrastructure projects in the southeast and across the United States. They will also develop subsurface investigation and laboratory testing plans, review boring logs and laboratory data, and design plans for a variety of geotechnical tasks such as slope stability, driven piles and drilled shafts, and also provide project specific analysis/evaluation for sites with seismic considerations, including slide remediation, ground improvement, and others. They will prepare geotechnical reports and also be expected to coordinate with project managers to implement measures to successfully meet all project goals and objectives. Southeast regional travel is required for site visits, client/project meetings, etc. Depending on the experience level of the candidate, responsibilities may also include logging geotechnical borings, development of project scope and fee estimates, and project management. Candidates must be capable of working independently or in a team environment assisting Senior Geotechnical staff.
