Ameresco is currently seeking an experienced Pre-construction Project Manager to join our Design Build Renewable Engineering Team in providing leadership, planning and construction management expertise for the execution and successful delivery of our multimillion-dollar Design Build renewable energy construction projects. The Pre-construction Project Manager is responsible for leading the overall management of the preconstruction phase for multiple projects, including estimating, constructability reviews, construction scope of work, bid package development, logistics planning & development, value engineering, contract awards, and other work related to Design and Construction Management type contracts. The team is based in Phoenix, Arizona, however this position is remote and will require travel as necessary to execute the overall preconstruction requirements. The Pre-construction Project Manager works directly with the Development Engineering Team, in-house Preconstruction and Construction Management departments, and subcontractor and supplier community to facilitate the design, pricing, and execution of construction work for a variety of energy projects. Develop the initial project scope, preliminary schedule, and portions or all of construction budget for renewable energy projects.

Draft and negotiate Scopes of Work for subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and professional service agreements in support of preconstruction and construction projects;

Prepare and update, as needed, all project pricing using Excel/Software pricing tool for projects throughout phases of the development cycle;

Coordinate with the project engineering/development team, subcontractors, and construction management team bridging project development and construction execution activities;

Conduct site audits to collect required as-built infrastructure data, physical and shade surveys, conceptual design input; validation of preliminary design & physical layout with an emphasis on constructability issues; coordination of environmental surveys, title reports, & soils testing; development of subcontractor scopes of work;

Strategically, source, solicit, qualify new subcontractors for implementation of projects and construction services in various markets across the U.S. as determined by project location;

Assist in the development of technical RFP/RFQ proposals including technical writing, customer meetings, and oral presentations;

Provide daily administrative and technical management of renewable construction projects;

Knowledge of full project accounting, project schedule and tracking, reporting, quality management and internal communication is important;

Support full project budget, project schedule, and develop/articulate scope of work to subcontracting community. Demonstrate knowledge/compliance with the Company's financial policies and procedures to include revenue recognition policies and project set up rules. Serve as a liaison between the development team and construction team;

Occasional interface with Ameresco customers managing relationships, contracts, and customer satisfaction. Demonstrate professional demeanor, and communication skills as a representative of Ameresco;

Regularly monitor and track assigned project performance and cost estimates to improve pre-construction process and results on future projects;

During development before handoff, manage vendors, subcontractors, and construction managers (site superintendents) to ensure quality control and project delivery on time and within budget, while meeting or exceeding customer expectations;

Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes;

Evaluate alternate schemes and value engineering options, as applicable;

Develop detailed cost estimates at all phases of design and preconstruction, including conceptual estimating requirements; and

Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of recent experience in commercial construction industry
  • Experience managing subcontractors is required.
  • Will require some travel.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and foster positive business relationships.
  • Full project life cycle experience (development, preconstruction, construction)
  • In depth knowledge of the construction process including scheduling, project estimating, contractor negotiation, contract administration, equipment, manpower, etc.
  • Industry experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Strong verbal, written, computer, technical communication and presentation skills.
  • Computer software proficiency with Procore, Estimating Software, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Project.
  • Valid Drivers' License in good standing, issued by resident state.
