Role Description

The Project Manager role has responsibility for the execution of Albemarle's Project Process (APP) as it applies to front end development, detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning & startup. This includes execution of procedures such as management of change (MOC) and pre safety start up review (PSSR). He/she will also develop proposals in collaboration with Operations, Process Engineering, and discipline representatives.In addition, the Project Manager will assist with mechanical start-up plans and procedures, support training, and assure documentation & knowledge transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Manages overall Project Team direction and expectations
  • Establishes and manages effective communications within the Integrated Project Team to ensure alignment among business and project objectives and the Design Basis
  • Provides the primary interface between the Project Leadership Team and the Business Unit Steering Team
  • Develops the project roles and responsibilities and ensures each functional team member understands their role and deliverable(s)
  • Manage and support completion of Albemarle Project Process (APP) deliverables (stage gate review and approval process)
  • Assist all gatekeeping reviews and ensures all front-end development deliverables are met
  • Assist in developing scopes of work and request for proposal packages for engineering work
  • Assist in resolving issues with vendors, evaluating bids, and developing procurement strategies
  • Support negotiations with key contractors and vendors as needed
  • Monitor third party engineering contractors to ensure quality work is on schedule and within budget
  • Travel to monitor engineering contractor activities and field construction progress
  • Leads safety, including setting expectations and being visible in the field
  • Manages overall project expenditures and schedule to meet business expectations.
  • Accountable for integrated engineering design and procurement schedule
  • Collaborate with Project Controls and management in reviewing financial data for projects on a regular basis to identify and address trends, challenges, and opportunities
  • Manages changes in the project scope and controls associated cost within the approved budget amounts per the established project "no-change" policy (Change Management Process)
  • Support ongoing planning definition process, specifically through establishing milestone targets, effective deadline management and resource allocations
  • Drives capital project work processes and practices

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks or multiple projects; willing to delegate
  • Leader in compliance with Company Safety, Health and Environment and Business policies, regulations, and standards
  • Good understanding of the business, the technology, and manufacturing process
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding and appreciation for the various functions and disciplines involved in capital projects and capability to build the strong engineering team necessary for project success
  • Experience and expertise in project processes from project concept through commissioning and start-up, and closeout
  • Results oriented and disciplined to follow project processes and best practices
  • Identifying and managing potential risks and liabilities
  • Document management through all project stages
  • Ability to align project objectives and justifications with various stakeholder groups
  • Knowledge of contracting strategies
  • Extensive knowledge of Project Management principles
  • Ability to judge the quality of engineering and construction documents
  • Ability to supervise multi-disciplined teams
  • Thorough knowledge of project controls and cost forecasting
  • Ability to prepare and analyze critical path schedules
  • Thorough understanding of engineering and construction productivity measurements
  • Estimating skills and knowledge of engineering and construction cost structure
  • Thorough understanding of design and constructability reviews along with other Value Improving Practices (VIPs)
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplined projects
  • Understanding of stage gated work processes and deliverables
  • Keen focus on project change management
  • Effective negotiation and dispute resolution skills, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Working knowledge of construction labor planning
  • Working knowledge of engineering design tools - 3D CAD, Caesar II, etc.
  • Working knowledge of materials management, procurement, receiving, warehousing, etc.
  • Knowledge of construction safety requirements and measurements
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products such as Access, Excel, Word, and Project
  • Familiarity with commercially available plant design products such as Autodesk's AutoCAD, Intergraph PDS, Bentley Micro-station, etc.
  • Working knowledge of MS Projects and SAP (PM/PS modules)
  • Experience in culturally diverse organizations
  • Effective at promoting teamwork

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, or other equivalent engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of direct experience in project management experience, preferably in specialty chemicals, petrochemical, or chemical industry
  • Previous experience managing (start to finish) Brownfield and/or Greenfield projects ($25M-$30M USD)
  • Must have experience managing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors
  • Experienced in supporting Quality Management program #LI-JH3
