The opportunity

Our USNG Business Innovation R&D - AutoPipe team is expanding to meet the future needs of our innovative business to grow beyond the existing build of the AutoPipe project. The successful candidate will likely have experience on Natural Gas pipelines in either Operations Planning or Facility Planning departments and will possess a strong understanding of commercial and technical operations as it relates to setting up a pipeline for daily operations using hydraulic modeling. They will also possess sound understanding of forecasting asset use, customer utilization and resulting optimization of pipeline operating options. The candidate will understand commercial and operational data to build recommendations for various operating conditions, calculating the true cost of operational options and connecting our data to other USNG innovative solutions that will advances our competitive advantage.

You will work with the internal IS Autonomous Pipeline project team, Gas Control & Planning, as well as Reliability, Noms & Scheduling, Marketing, Field Operations, and likely many other teams to determine how to connect all the business data we generate into solutions that can optimize the way we operate safely and reliability to achieve annual goals and targets.

This role will be responsible for the successful growth of the Autonomous Pipeline project for our U.S. natural gas pipelines, using the Office 365 and AWS software suite to build mock-ups and prototypes that bridge the gaps between the business needs and the project team.

This position will report to the Director of Business Innovation R&D - Autonomous Pipeline. Actual hired level will align with experience at time of hiring date.

    What you'll do

    Use data analysis, hydraulic pipeline simulation software and machine learning to forecast pipeline operational requirements and provide recommendations to optimize daily opportunities;

    • Determine operational modes to operate effectively, efficiently, reliably and safely
    • Support Commercial Operations teams in expanding and refining how the Autonomous Pipeline project predicts future operations with hydraulic modeling simulations.
    • Coordinate future program requirements with Field Ops and Technical Services.
    • Proactively identify and prototype additional opportunities to expand the Autonomous Pipeline program to other similarly innovative areas that increase the value of to USNG.
    • Passionate ability to lead well, stay organized and complete activities on multiple projects and across multiple team members concurrently and timely.
    • Present to internal customers and supporting teams the status, vision and workings of Autonomous Pipeline.
    • Work with the different stakeholders to build product roadmaps aligned to deliver business outcomes.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required from an ABET accredited university
    • Minimum often years of relevant experience
    • Strong working knowledge of pipelines operations, commercial contracts and tariffs.
    • Hydraulic pipeline simulation software experience is required (steady-state, transient and real-time modeling) and experience specific to DNV Synergi products is preferred.
    • Ability to quickly perform historical operational data analysis for multiple assets simultaneously;.
    • Experience with Python, T-SQL and relational databases.
    • Displays strong business acumen in the areas of Commercial, Operations and Digital Innovation with a strong willingness to continue to learn.
    • Working system knowledge of gas pipeline and storage operations from both an operational and commercial lens.
    • Ability to prototype, document and teach relevant experiences and program modules to project team.
    • Must be fully capable in Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Access, Excel, Power BI and Power Point. Use of AWS data software suite for data organization, manipulation and machine learning.
    • Comfortable working with ambiguity, informing your decisions and direction with research, data, experiments, and customer feedback.
    • Able to bring an idea to life in taking opportunities from the intangible to the tangible and can represent and market these opportunities to product customers;
    • Proof of strong verbal and written communication skills in a collaborative and team-oriented setting with excellent and confident communicator with mature presentation skills.
    • Entrepreneurial, willing to engage with risk as we determine the ultimate path of this department.
    • Effective at managing personal and product team capacity, delegating and prioritizing workload.
    • React appropriately to changing project scope and timelines, while tactfully shifting skillsets and personal schedules to accommodate business needs.
    • Occasional travel is required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous leadership with hydraulic design or pipeline operating experience.
    • Experience within Gas Control, Facility Planning or Operations Planning, with a strong focus on delivering financial results for the business.
    • Experience turning an idea into a business software "tools" to optimizing the way we work to increase workload efficiency or increase the value of the pipeline.
    • Ability to transition swiftly into this role.
