The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an entry- or mid-level Transportation Planner to support grant/financial management of transit-related projects and the administration of federal transit grant program activities. This position will work with public and private transportation providers, local governments, communities, and other stakeholders. In addition, responsibilities include preparing presentations, correspondence, documentation, articles, and reports. This posting is for an entry-level Transportation Planner I position. Due to the pandemic, the North Central Texas Council of Governments is currently permitting employees to work a hybrid schedule that consists of the equivalent of a minimum of two days per week in the NCTCOG offices in Arlington, Texas, and three days remotely from home within the Dallas-Fort Worth Region.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Grant/Financial Management, Funding and Reporting:

  • Collecting various transit-related performance measures
  • Developing and maintaining databases of project listings and funding awards for the purpose of grant administration, monitoring, and tracking
  • Assisting with annual programming of federal funds to public transportation providers
  • Assisting with various financial analyses to ensure fair and equitable distribution of federal funds across the region
  • Assisting with the preparation of grant documents and verifying all format requirements, funding availability, and deadlines are met
  • Assisting with the coordination, implementation, and management of short-term transit-related projects
  • Assisting with building supportive community networks

Other Responsibilities may include:

  • Drafting technical reports and project status reports for supervisor review
  • Providing technical assistance and support within the agency and to external partners
  • Assisting with oversight and compliance activities consistent with grantor program guidelines
  • Assisting with the research, analysis and interpretation of federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to transportation planning and funding

Required Skills:

  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with partner agencies, the public, and stakeholders
  • Ability to collect and understand data from various sources
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Sensitivity to cultural, socioeconomic, and political issues in the community
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Innovative and proactive problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in analytical and quantitative methods (Business, Economics, Finance, Public Administration, Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, or related area)
  • One year of job-related experience or less
  • Experience implementing regional and/or public transportation projects desired
  • Experience working with federal, State, or local transportation programs desired
  • Experience working with transit-dependent populations desired

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Salary

  • Minimum of $40,446.00 - $48,535.20 annually
