Job Description

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an Intern to support transit mobility management efforts and transit planning activities. Tasks will generally include technical and/or administrative support to transit studies and projects. Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills are essential to this position. Applicants wishing to be considered for this position should apply online at. Qualified candidates must be attending an accredited college or university while in the position and able to work at the NCTCOG offices in Arlington, Texas. All submittals should include a cover letter summarizing work experience, as well as a current resume.

Ideal candidates should be able to work at least 25 hours per week while attending school.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Entering data and maintaining databases, calendars, and contact lists
  • Assisting with the collection, processing, and analysis of transportation and demographic data
  • Assisting with the creation and editing of maps, and processing of spatial and tabular data utilizing Geographic Information Systems (ESRI ArcGIS)
  • Assisting with public outreach and coordination, including meetings, workshops, and webinars
  • Drafting educational outreach materials for external stakeholders
  • Assisting with the research, analysis, and interpretation of federal regulations pertaining to compliance with federal funding
  • Preparing memos and draft presentations summarizing research and synthesis data for studies and transit initiatives
  • Assisting with analysis on various sources, including transit-related financial, service, asset, and safety information
  • Providing professional support for the Department subcommittees, which may include scheduling regular/cyclical meetings, developing agendas, and preparing handouts



Desired Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (ESRI ArcGIS)
  • Familiarity with publicly available data sources such as US Census
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Detail oriented, organized, and have ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Sensitivity to cultural, socioeconomic, and political issues in the community
  • Ability to interact with partner agencies in a courteous and professional manner
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to interpret data trends, and willingness to learn
  • Must be able to accept new techniques and procedures quickly and integrate them into daily job functions


Required Education & Experience:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university during employment. Pursuit of a degree in a related field desired.
  • No work experience required, at least one year of school-related experience preferred

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Compensation:

  • Minimum of $15.00 per hour
