Non-Tenure-Track Teaching Faculty Position in Biomedical Engineering
Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering, West Virginia University

The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University invites applications for a non-tenure track teaching faculty position in biomedical engineering starting as early as Spring 2023. Applicants will be considered at the rank of Teaching Assistant or Teaching Associate Professor. This is a nine-month, non-tenure track faculty rank position that is eligible for promotion and merit raises with contract lengths of 6 years and 9 years upon promotion to associate and full teaching professor, respectively. The position anticipates a level of effort of 80% assigned to teaching and 20% assigned to departmental service.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD in biomedical engineering or related discipline at the time of application. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach traditional, core biomedical engineering courses mainly at the undergraduate level, advise students and assist with the ABET accreditation process. Candidates for the rank of Teaching Associate Professor must have a sustained record of outstanding teaching and service for a minimum period of 5 years at an ABET accredited institution. Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate level, assisting in the ABET accreditation process, engaging in professional service to the Department and College, advising students, and participating in professional development activities that advance the engineering education field by making presentations at national meetings and authoring papers in education journals. The development of a limited research program in the general area of education research either alone or in conjunction with existing faculty in the Department and College is also encouraged.

The Statler College has seven academic departments, over 4,700 students, and 135 faculty members, with about $30M in annual external research expenditures. The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering has 18 faculty members and approximately 250 undergraduate and 67 doctoral students. The Department offers degrees at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels in both chemical and biomedical engineering. The Biomedical Engineering program has seven core faculty members from the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department and several affiliated faculty members from Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science and Electrical Engineering as well as several adjunct faculty from the College of Medicine at WVU. The biomedical engineering faculty collaborate very closely with the College of Medicine on a variety of projects in the areas of rehabilitation engineering and precision medicine.

Morgantown and the areas in the vicinity have a diverse population of about 135,000 residents and is ranked highly among the most livable small cities in the country.
