Hamamatsu, one of the world's largest suppliers of advanced light detectors and detector systems for industrial, scientific, and commercial applications, has an immediate opening for a Sales Engineer based out of our San Jose, CA location. Our customer base is remarkably diverse; we serve Fortune 100 firms, top research labs, and innovative startups as well. Hamamatsu's mission is to improve the welfare of society through the advancement of photonics technology.

Responsibilities include:
  • Increase bookings by 15% within one year by closing ongoing opportunities with OEM customers
  • Develop 5 new opportunities over $200K each within one year
  • Proactively pursue new business with existing customers and identify new customers through cold calling and follow up of qualified leads
  • Develop quarterly plans to drive sales activities
  • Develop and maintain a strategic relationship with all identified "key" opportunities
  • Create strategic customer plans to maximize account penetration
  • Maximize Hamamatsu's profit while maintaining high level of customer loyalty by independently negotiating at least 2 contracts/year
  • Become proficient with project management tools and communication skills needed to handle complex development programs with key opportunities
  • Become proficient with photonics technology and their applications
  • Special projects as needed
Required qualifications:
  • 5 years technical OEM sales experience or 2 years as an Internal Sales Engineer II or III at Hamamatsu
  • BS Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 3 years Photonics experience
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
  • The ability to transport yourself to and from appointments
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with Customer Resource Management Software
  • Experience with international business development
  • Experience with Lotus Notes
  • Sales negotiation training
  • Sales skills training
