The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Data Solutions, the Associate Director devises technology-driven solutions for philanthropy and alumni engagement that focus on two key themes: business process improvements and empowering all of the division's strategies and outcomes by delivering increased understanding of its constituents derived from advanced analytics and predictive computational modeling. The Associate Director will also be responsible for both a continually evolving portfolio of projects with discrete objectives, assets, and timeliness as well as essential ongoing programmatic functions. The Associate Director will also assist the senior director and other leaders in determining, scoping, and tracking project priorities and delivery cycles.

The Associate Director also serves as one of the department's liaisons to the University CRM platform. The Associate Director must be proactive, energetic, tenacious, and detail-oriented with the ability to work collaboratively with other members of the staff to advance the University's efforts to fund-raise and friend-raise from its constituencies. The Associate Director may be tasked to supervise the efforts of part-time data and gift processing staff and/or student workers assigned to such tasks.

Technology-Driven Optimization

Identify potential areas of automation in business processes and develop said automation. Uses software, such as Omatic tools, Tableau, and SQL Developer to supplement the built-in functionality of the enterprise platform. Troubleshoots platform -related issues for users, engaging other staff as needed for resolution. Partner with colleagues in IT as necessary. Design tools that empower effectiveness of end users, deliver ongoing training to end users, and develop technological strategies and tools aimed at enhancing the donor experience.

Solutions Project Roles

As assigned by the Senior Director, takes the initiative to design, implement, and/or refine technical, procedural, and policy improvements that foster positive outcomes in advancement services, philanthropy, and alumni engagement. Key projects may entail the development of new data models and the development of predictive analytical products. Other supporting projects may require developing an environment where these data products can deliver true insight, including acquiring and loading new data sources; data hygiene efforts; and installing system updates. Plan and manage organizational change, design and implement new business processes, and identify potential resource requirements.

Reporting

Under the leadership of the Senior Director, develop, maintain and report detailed analytics related to constituents, donations, activity, trends, and metrics as needed by management. Responsible for reviewing and ensuring the relevance, accuracy, and timeliness of data and reporting for purposes of accountability and constituents' outcomes. Develop and maintain queries/exports for direct appeals, email campaigns, publications, events, and ad hoc projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Minimum of at least two years of experience as a data or business analyst, preferably in higher education fundraising and alumni engagement
  • Experience using SQL along with other languages and programs such as Python, SPSS, and R to mine complex data sources and interpret trends
  • Knowledge of, and proficiency in, Oracle-based business systems and technology applications is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Ellucian Advance or similar fundraising applications/constituent relationship management systems is strongly preferred
