Summary

This position is eligible for hiring bonus!

Well qualified candidates with less than 2 years of experience are eligible to receive a $7,500.00 sign on bonus! While candidates with more than 2 years of experience are eligible to receive a $15,000 sign on bonus. Relocation assistance and temporary housing if needed. Please note this bonus is not available to current MaineHealth employees or prior employees that have been separated for less than 6 months.

Position Summary

The Medical Technologist independently performs and monitors laboratory testing of patient specimens according to established procedures and regulatory requirements. Confirms, interprets, correlates and reports normal and abnormal patient results. Recognizes technical, instrumental and/or physiological problems and initiates resolutions. Assumes responsibility for accuracy, quality control and required instrument maintenance. May provide training of laboratory and/or other health care personnel as directed.

Primary Functions


- Performs accurate, timely testing and reporting. May be required to perform specimen collection, processing, and handling, including waived testing and specialty collections/processing.
- Correlates test results with the patient's condition, detecting and investigating abnormalities.

- Recognizes and resolves test system and instrument malfunctions.
- Utilizes problem solving and critical thinking to ensure quality management standards are met.
- Provides excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all laboratory personnel, internal and external customers.

- Provides ethical and professional service to all internal and external customers.
- Follows all departmental and organizational procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements.

- Participates in achieving departmental and system-wide goals.
- May perform competency assessment for high and moderate complexity testing.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    1. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science required.
    2. License/Certifications: Certification as a medical technologist (or equivalent) or as a categorical technologist (e.g., C, H, I, BB, M) by a recognized professional organization (e.g., ASCP, AMT) within 6 months of hire.
    3. Experience: N/A
    4. Must be able to work any shift, holiday and/or weekend, and travel among company sites as needed.
