Job Description

DLZ Corporation currently has a Hydraulic Engineer / Modeling opportunity in Detroit, MI!

Duties & Responsibilities:

    Storm/Combined sewer modeling and design.
  • Water distribution system modeling.
  • Hydraulic transient (surge) analysis.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for a variety of projects.
  • Use HMR 51/52 and SCS methods for hydrologic analysis to determine peak flows associated with PMF and various recurrence interval storms.
  • Perform hydraulic computations using backwater analysis programs such as HEC-RAS to determine water surface elevations in streams and channels.
  • Perform closed conduit modeling using programs such as SWMM and/or its commercial variants and InfoWorks ICM.
  • Prepare detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analysis reports for studies and projects, and development of associated technical memorandums.
  • ESRI based GIS experience to build models with data from that environment
  • Provide oversight and guidance to junior-level engineers.
  • Interact with clients on an as-needed basis.
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Civil Engineering
  • 2 - 6 years' work experience relevant to hydraulic modeling.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification required, pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Demonstrated experience in SWMM and Infoworks ICM modeling, (2D modeling experience is desirable)
  • Previous experience with WaterGEMS, InfoWater or other water distribution packages.
  • Experience with HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS (1D and 2D)
  • Experience with model calibration and flow monitoring
  • GIS experience
  • Ability to manipulate and present data in database management software (Access, SQL Server, Oracle)
  • Programming skills with languages such as Visual Basic, Python, C++, MatLab
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of asset risk profiles and field condition assessment quality inspection.
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements
