As a Staff Civil Engineer in Mobile, Alabama you will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world situations on projects involving site characterization; landfill design and construction; earth retaining structures; deep and soft/weak foundations; dams and water containment structures; forensic investigations and litigation support; geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring; numerical analysis of stability and deformation; and geohazard / earthquake characterization / mitigation, while learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Conducting geotechnical field investigations;
  • Assisting with geotechnical instrumentation installation and monitoring;
  • Monitoring heavy civil construction projects;
  • Performing and reviewing engineering calculations;
  • Landfill design and permitting;
  • Dam and levee evaluations;
  • Working closely with clients and contractors;
  • Developing construction documents; and
  • Writing and reviewing engineering reports.

Here are some other things you should know about this position:

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 30%
  • Position is full time at an active construction site, providing engineering, instrumentation, and quality assurance services.
  • Overnight travel: Up to 30%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in geotechnical, civil, or environmental engineering. (preferred)
  • Current EIT or ability to obtain an EIT within 1 year of employment. (valuable)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior internship or fulltime experience with a civil contractor or consulting firm. (preferred)
  • Experience with geotechnical and engineering software such as AutoCAD C3D, Slope/W, PLAXIS, SLIDE, FLAC. (preferred)
  • Experience performing civil design and site grading. (preferred)
  • Ability to clear client-driven drug/alcohol and background screens for project work. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
