Civil Railroad Designer - Omaha, NE

Our Railroad group is hiring a Civil Designer to work in Omaha, NE. As a Civil Railroad Designer, you will work on various rail projects reporting to the project manager. Design engineering includes field investigations, analysis, calculations, and preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates. Ideal candidates will hold an Engineer-In-Training certification, with aspirations of obtaining PE licensure.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Positive experience interacting with clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders
  • Accustomed to working in a team environment on challenging projects
  • Working closely with project managers and project engineers to efficiently and accurately complete project design plans
  • Demonstrate ability to integrate data
  • Performing fundamental analysis of project elements
  • Designing and drafting elements and details
  • Developing task deliverables in a complete and reviewable manner
  • Performing tasks on schedule and within budget as assigned
  • Working independently under the guidance of a project engineer
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of civil engineering design of railroad projects
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering degree or related required
  • Engineer-in-Training Certification preferred, with a desire to obtain PE licensure
  • Demonstrate competent use of Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with MicroStation and Inroads, and preferably with OpenRoads Designer
  • Knowledge/Experience of other related project elements a plus, such as:
    • Big Data Processing, GIS/ERSI, Drainage Design, Stormwater Permitting, and Site Utility (Sewer, Water, Natural Gas, etc.) Design
  • Excellent organizational & communication skills (verbal and written - e-mails, project memos, reports, etc.)
  • Must be able to communicate complex technical concepts to engineers, clients, candidates, and public stakeholders
  • Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills
  • Must be willing to accept occasional out-of-town travel assignments to meet project demands
