Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.

Our mission is to create outstanding research and innovative technologies for networking, telecommunication, and software systems. Our team research focuses on the operational challenges in deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting networks and software systems. We create data-driven solutions and implement software systems to provide autonomy to network operation in such a way that scales with future workload demands.

What you will learn and contribute to

We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher to join our research team in Murray Hill, New Jersey. You will have access to a variety of data sources related to network operations and software development from which you will create research assets with cutting edge AI/ML algorithms that provide automation to significantly improve network operations, and problem resolution beyond error-prone human activities and limitations.

Are you passionate about solving problems? As part of our team, you will:

  • Identify new and ambitious research challenges, define research projects, and carry out these projects to completion.
  • Understand critical issues in network and software operation troubleshooting that require AI/ML level autonomy to scale in the future.
  • Publish research in top conferences and journals worldwide.
  • Partner with Nokia business units and other researchers to transfer research results into products.
  • Generate intellectual property through the patenting of ideas.

Your skills and experience

Autonomous Networks and Software Systems Researchers are expected to have the ability to conduct independent research while also contributing to team-oriented projects that often span across multiple Bell Labs sites. Please, contact us if you have:

  • A MSc or PhD (desired) in computer science or electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Proven track record of high-quality research publications in major international conferences.
  • Deep understanding of networks, distributed systems and/or data science and engineering.
  • Pipeline design and ML life cycle. Python, R skills or other programming lenguage. ML frameworks such as Spark, Tensorflow, Keras, or others.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills and the ability to participate in productive discussions in English.

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Database Skills (Postgress, MongoDB, Elastic Search). Container and Docker Knowledge. ELK Stack or similar (Graphana, Prometheus) Knowledge
  • Understanding of current trends in distributed computing and cloud-native paradigms.
