What You Will Do:

Our Transit and Rail Business Line is currently looking for a Senior OCS Engineer to join our team with a market focus in New York City, NY. This Senior Catenary Design Engineer will be responsible for the design of Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS) for rail electrification projects throughout North America. Our current clients include Amtrak, SEPTA, NJ Transit, Metrolinx, Toronto Transit Commission, LA Metro, King County Metro, among others. Current projects include the Portal Bridge Project (Amtrak), Raritan River Bridge Replacement (NJ Transit), Powelton Yard Catenary Replacement (SEPTA), Metrolinx Electrification Project, and Valley Metro Yard Expansion in Phoenix, Arizona. We are currently the exclusive provider for OCS design from Washington DC to New York for Amtrak and hold on-call contracts with several agencies across North America.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as Senior Project OCS Engineer leading catenary design development.
  • Manage/mentor junior staff.
  • Development of OCS Construction Specifications and bid packages.
  • Development of construction cost estimates.
  • Participate in project working meetings.
  • Value Engineering.
  • Construction Staging.
  • Review contractor submittals and work closely with field force account labor on the installation of OCS components.
  • OCS designs will include foundations, structural steel, sectionalizing plans, OCS layouts of various configurations, cable and conduit routing, conductor profiles and supporting hardware, complex load calculations, and installation specifications.
  • Field support during construction may be required.
Education | Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Engineering License (preferred).
  • 5 years of experience in the design and construction of overhead contact systems.
  • Knowledge of computer based catenary designs and structural support systems.
  • Experience working on large transit/railroad projects with various fixed termination, auto tensioned, single trolley, and compound catenary designs.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with other interfacing multi-disciplinary team members (other rail system engineers and civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineers).
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
