The Behavioral Consultant (BC) performs a variety of job duties under the supervision of the Clinical Director and recognizes clinical updates and recommendations from the written order. The BC develops and directs the individualized treatment of clients collaboratively with consumers and families. The BC provides consultation, assessment, observation, treatment plan development, data collection, and analysis specific to identified target behaviors. The BC develops and implements an Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP) with the child and family, identifying and highlighting child, family, educational, social, and recreational strengths as well as areas in which the individual needs improvement. Provision of this service may include preference assessments, reinforcement, extinction, time-out strategies, or other rehabilitative activities as prescribed by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist and referenced in the client's Individual Treatment Plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops individualized client treatment.
- Provides support to parents, teachers, or community officials. Provides clinical support to direct care staff and BHTs.
- Implements rewards and consequences relating to appropriate and inappropriate behavior.
- Coordinates clinical information/direction with other professionals and agencies. Exchanges information clearly and concisely with the appropriate parties and concerns.
- Completes all paperwork and documentation in accordance with established company policies and procedures and acceptable clinical practices within designated timeframes.
- Completes ongoing assessment of operationally defined target behaviors using direct and indirect methods.
- Performs Functional behavior Assessments as needed (upon completion of FBA certification).
- Remains updated on evidenced based behavioral practices.
- Provides culturally aware and competent service provision
- Teaches skills related to adaptive functioning using least restrictive methods.
- Accepts cases and works within his/her own educational, training, and competency guidelines to ensure ethical and effective treatment delivery
- Completes initial training curriculum as per company requirements and guidelines.
- An individual who provides behavior consultation services shall complete at least 16 hours of Department-approved training annually that is related to the individual's specific job functions and is in accordance with the individual training plan.

- Provide clinical supervision on an ongoing basis to BHT assigned to their cases.
- Supervises an individual who provides BHT services, the individual shall receive an additional hour of face-to-face supervision per month that includes a discussion of the BHT services being provided.
- Thirty minutes of direct observation of services being provided every 6 months.
- One hour of supervision each week if the individual who provides BHT services works at least 37.5 hours per week or 1 hour of supervision two times a month if the individual who provides BHT services works less than 37.5 hours a week.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- As addressed in the IBHS service description, and stated in the BC Individual Services Training Manual.
- Individuals who provide individual services through behavior consultation services must meet one of the following:
- o Be licensed in this Commonwealth as a behavior specialist.
- o Have a certification as a BCBA or other graduate-level certification in behavior analysis.
- o Have a graduate degree in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from a college or university.
- o Have a minimum of 1 year of full-time experience in providing mental health direct services to children, youth or young adults and a graduate degree in psychology, social work, education, or counseling.
- o Completed a clinical or mental health direct service practicum and have a graduate degree in psychology, social work, education, or counseling.
- Must have PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Clearances
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 1 year related experience and/or training.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Ability to develop, read and analyze treatment plans. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries regarding clients and/or families. Ability to document data and effectively consult with treatment team members both verbally and in writing. Ability to transfer skills to the care giver.
Ability to understand and apply general math skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, implement effective intervention from the treatment plan and draw valid conclusions.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess knowledge of the basic principles of psychology and related behavioral sciences.
- Possess knowledge of mental disabilities and treatments and social implications.
- Possess knowledge of psychological techniques, theories, and practices employed in the modification of human behavior.
- Must possess the ability to analyze complex issues and solve them correctly and creatively. Must possess strong communication skills in both a verbal and written format.
- Must possess the ability to meet established deadlines and schedules.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the clients and the clients family.
- Must be organized and efficient.
- Must possess leadership qualities.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to assign directives responsibly in a clear, concise manner.
- Must be able to implement corrective action relating to the various work situations when appropriate.
