Community Bank System, Inc. is looking for a Collections Recovery Assistant in Canton, NY who will be responsible to perform various duties related to recovery and bankruptcy functions and monitor daily workflow as assigned by Recovery Team Leader to increase department efficiencies.This exciting opportunity offers career growth within a full service financial institution that has been in business for over 150 years and is one of Forbes Top 12 twelve years running!

Collections Recovery Assistant Job Overview:

  • Assist and support Bankruptcy Specialist.
    • Code accounts, set up and maintain files.
    • Track accounts for payments and timely return of paperwork.
  • Assist Recovery Agents.
    • Prepare files for legal and track accounts through the legal process.
    • Prepare paperwork on repossessions and charge-offs.
    • Process recovery monies and prepare various reports.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to customer inquiries on accounts.
  • Perform various office duties as required.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of, and demonstrate ongoing compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to this position, ensure ongoing adherence to pertinent policies, procedures, and internal controls, and meet all job-specific training requirements in a timely fashion.


  • Associates Degree in Business or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong organization, computer and communication skills.
  • Proficient reading, writing, grammar and mathematics skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills and the ability to multi-task with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to function independently and as a member of a team in a fast paced environment.
  • Minimum of two years of Collections/Loans experience normally preferred.

Hours:40 hours/week

Location:Canton, NY

Compensation:This position also provides potential for additional compensation, including an annual performance based merit increase and bonus, along with the generous benefits package mentioned above.
