Fire Protection Engineer
The Site Facility Engineering unit at the Kesselring Site is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer that will meet the Naval Reactors Program requirements of a Qualified Fire Protection Engineer.The successful candidateshould be comfortable working in a self-directed environment with minimal guidance from their manager and Fire Code Official. This position will also require mentoring of newer engineersand assistance with the development of the Naval Reactors fire protection program.
The mission of the Site Facilities Engineering unit at the Kesselring Site is to provide timely, high quality, integrated,customer service-based engineering solutions for all non-reactor plant prototype facilities,and to support the operations, maintenance, and capital improvement needs while embracing regulatory compliance. The Kesselring Site is a government reservation of approximately 4000 acres with a developed area of nearly 60 acres. Our facilities support the training of naval personnel, the testing of new reactor plant technologies and the associated business support functions.

Desired Skills
AQualified Fire Protection Engineershallhavecompleted at least four years of progressive engineering practice, three of which were in responsible charge of diverse fire protection engineering work. Degrees in Fire Science, Fire Protection Engineering or other technology disciplines will be considered along with commensurate engineering practice.
Experience with the design and maintenance of fire protection systems including alarm and detection, waterand gaseous suppression systems, fire and life safety code reviews, and fire hazard analysis.
Familiarity with Department ofEnergy Fire Protection Programs
Familiarity/Working knowledge of the Building Code set for New York State and associated reference standards
Familiarity/Working knowledgewith NFPA standards
Experience with the development of engineering documents (e.g. engineering analysis, technical specifications, functional requirements, cost estimates, maintenance requirements, engineering drawings, etc.)
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) registration
Strong interpersonal and teaming skills
Coordination of multi-discipline teams
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with appropriate engineering software computer tools
