General Summary

The Standardized Patient reports directly to the Coordinator of the Nursing Simulation Lab. Theprimary responsibility of the Standardized Patient is to portray the characteristics of a real patient, simulating all aspects of the created scenarios, primarily in the simulated in-patient setting including history of current problem, affect/behavior and physical findings, in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner. Scenario facts must be accurately memorized,retained, and portrayed. Scenarios may be audio and videotaped for evaluative purposes. TheStandardized Patient must be willing to assist with simulation tasks such as resetting scenarios and occasionally offering feedback. This position will work approximately 100-200 hours per academic semester approximately and 50 hours during the summer semester.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Hours

Varied and to be determined; not to exceed 28 per week.

Extra Help employees are paid for hours worked only. They may work up to 900 hours.

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment.Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including healthinsurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University's supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.
