Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

Iridium seeks an exceptional entry level engineer to contribute to the research, development, testing, and sustaining engineering activities of the Iridium services and ground communications infrastructure. Education or demonstrated work experience in engineering practices and software/hardware testing, as well as a desire to build leadership skills is necessary for success in this position. The ideal candidate will assist in verifying the reliability and robustness of Iridium products and communication services, have a vested interest in the long-term success of their work, and be highly self-reliant.

 

Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    Work collaboratively with software, hardware, and system development engineers
  • Integrate, maintain and operate gateway hardware, lab hardware and software systems
  • Assist with design, implementation, and maintenance of automated test system software
  • Assist in recreating and isolating reported software and/or hardware defects using test infrastructure and document non-compliances
  • Identify test, programmatic, and services implementation risks
  • Assist in the mitigation of risks and issues identified
  • Research and implement hardware upgrades of ground infrastructure and test systems
  • Assist in maintaining configuration management of the test automation software and scripts
  • Assist in decomposing requirements into verifiable test objectives
  • Develop and maintain test plans and procedures
  • Develop, maintain, and execute test scripts for feature, defect and regression testing
  • Analyze test results; generate and present reports based on test execution and analysis
  • Assist in conducting on-site customer acceptance tests
  • Update and maintain technical product documentation
  • Collaborate with team members across various functional disciplines to ensure high product quality

Desirable Abilities and Skills:

  • Understanding of software production
  • Exposure to Systems troubleshooting approaches and methodologies
  • Exposure to Systems integration
  • Knowledgeable with the Linux and/or Unix operating systems extremely beneficial
  • Exposure to laboratory test equipment (network analyzers, state machine driven traffic simulators, protocol analyzers, etc.) is beneficial.
  • Exposure to Agile software development process is beneficial
  • Knowledgeable with software management tools (JIRA and/or Bamboo)
  • Knowledgeable with high-availability software and hardware systems
  • Knowledgeable about machine virtualization, specifically VMware Desktop and ESXi
  • Knowledgeable with databases such as Oracle, MySQL, and/or SQL Server
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Results driven with strong sense of ownership
  • Ability to work well both independently and in team structures
  • Must have a drive for continuous innovation, adding value, and reducing cycle time and costs
  • Must strive to develop professionally, continuously learn and share knowledge with others
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field experience

  • Some experience developing software in C, C++, C#, Java, Python and/or other computer languages

  • Must have an interest in test automation systems development

  • Must have an interest in providing high quality, cost effective system integration, test, and support services

  • Knowledgeable with network switches and routers; Cisco or other network certifications beneficial

  • Experience with the Microsoft Windows and Office product suite

  • Willing and able to travel up to 15 days annually

  • Willing and able to be on-call to support operational issues

  • Written and spoken proficiency in English is required

  • U.S citizenship is required
