Job Description

Vitro is looking for several production operators as our business continues to grow. The operator is responsible for the application of proper controls to the process, the safe and efficient use of all equipment needed to bend and strengthen glass to conform to the customer's requirements and continuous monitoring of product, process, and equipment parameters.

They must run the machine to job specific standards, quality specifications, and with a high degree of safety focus. Our production jobs can be taught, but the most successful employees have an eye for detail, take ownership of their work, can problem solve, and are not afraid to tackle a challenge! Our glass goes into automobiles, so our products need to be of the highest quality to ensure drivers on the road are safe with Vitro glass. Overall, the equipment is highly automated and requires operators to use control panels to monitor and make necessary adjustments to maximize through-put and quality. We track our progress and work to reduce our downtime on a constant basis. Every employee contributes to this goal.

Our operators:

  • Plan and address daily production needs
  • Check the quality of incoming parts; make necessary SPC checks on process; takes appropriate action as necessary or required.
  • Set up and maintain proper operating parameters
  • Accurately and timely report/enter/log daily production information into the appropriate forms and/or databases.
  • May need to decide to put glass on "hold" and enters data into computer
  • May need to decide to separate potentially bad glass into a "review" area
  • Delivers needed materials from storage, places into storage racks. Assists in delivering needed materials to the line.
  • Has a thorough knowledge of and adheres to Work Instructions and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs),
  • Adjusts equipment using hand tools.
  • Maintain line cleanliness, including proper storage of tools, emptying trash and getting full trash hoppers dumped.
  • Make efficient use of downtime, including communication with supervisor as to what other areas may need additional work or assistance
  • Communication to supervision of potential issues.
  • Must wear all required personal protective equipment in all required locations
  • Miscellaneous and related duties; as required or directed.

    Qualifications and Skills:

  • Manufacturing Operator experience required to be hired directly into an operator position
  • High degree of mechanical aptitude
  • To be hired directly in as an Operator, you must attain passing score on Select Assessment for Manufacturing test per Production Operator profile
  • Ability to safely operate a fork truck and maintain the required license.
  • Must have adequate PC skills to be able to work with computerized systems.
  • Must be motivated, self-driven, and organized.
  • Must be willing to assist in other roles as called upon or needed.


  • Performs duties within normal manufacturing environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, push/pull, grip to use hand tools, reach, see, hear and speak.
  • Willing and able to work in warm conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and with assistance, above 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Associate must follow posted security procedures at all times while in the building.
  • Must follow all PPE requirements.
