We are seeking a new Project Accounting Manager to join our team. Your role will be to have responsibility for mentoring, reviewing, and managing the work product of the project accounting staff, to ensure timely and accurate draw processing, in partnership with field operations to share ownership of the project’s success.
As a member of the Accounting department, you will work with Project Accountants and report to our Controller/Chief Financial Officer.
As Project Accounting Manager, you will:
- Manage a staff of three to six Project Accountants and Senior Project Accountants, whose responsibilities include:
- Manage and perform high-level accounting tasks related to the maintenance/processing of G702 and G703 and other accounting requirements on a project-by-project basis for a variety of different projects.
- Determine, implement, and manage appropriate accounting methods and functions as deemed necessary and appropriate by Project Accounting Manager based on the Project Requirements, information and data from Pencil Meetings, best practices, acceptable accounting methods and Company Policy.
- Manage and maintain accounts receivable records, and provide oversight and assistance with invoice preparation, invoice distribution in accordance with best practices as determined by the needs and variations of the projects.
- Correspond with owners, owner reps, lenders, and title companies regarding payment and changes in requested applications for payment, waivers of lien and related forms as Project Accounting Manager deems necessary and/or appropriate based on independent discretion and judgment.
- Serves as chief accounting point of contact for all project accounting related questions and concerns.
- Act as gatekeeper to subcontractor payment process. Manage monthly subcontractor payments and distribute to subcontractors in exchange for waivers (including 2nd tier and supplier waivers).
- Review waivers for accuracy and submit monthly waiver packages to the title company (if applicable).
- Resolve issues, discrepancies and other concerns related to waivers and subcontractor payments.
- Verify subcontractor compliance with subcontract requirements before releasing payments; analyze, determine, and implement appropriate corrective action if there is non-compliance.
- Serve as chief accounting point of contact for all project accounting related questions and concerns.
- Provide guidance, training and mentoring to all managed staff.
- Coordinate staff workload and schedules to ensure seamless workflow while staff are working remotely or unavailable during paid time off.
- Make recommendations and implement cost effective methods to improve process and streamline workflow.
- Design / provide dashboard reporting to Controller / CFO on all active projects under project accounting management.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.
To be successful in this position, you will need:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience required.
- Eight or more years construction accounting experience required, with at least five years as a senior project accountant for a general contractor preferred.
- A strong knowledge of accounting, auditing, and invoicing required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- A thorough understanding of accounting software, Viewpoint, and Microsoft Office is strongly preferred.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills, analysis, and strong attention to detail necessary.
- The ability to organize and support multiple projects and personnel at the same time.
- Strong service orientation.
