Job Description
The Safety and Environmental Technician is a key contributor to the success of the location's Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) requirements mandated by federal, state, local, customer and company requirements. 
  • Be active in the work areas with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Conduct training with other employees
  • Take ownership role in the SHE projects and requirements
  • Create and or modify work instruction, procedures and training documents
  • Stay current with new methods, techniques and processes in support of the facility growth 
  • Will work close with outside entities on quotes, specifications, planning, delivery of services, training, audits and investigations
  • Assist in organizing and conducting OSHA training
  • Help develop and enforce OSHA policies site wide with active involvement in team activities
  • Be a valued point of contact for other employees helping them to be successful
  • Could be asked to be on call in support of the company requirements
  • Work with leadership to monitor compliance and identify SHE issues
  • Must collect, organize, evaluate data and develop logical conclusions
  • Will control the companies Safety Data Sheets and the tracking of new additions
Requirements:
  • Documented education, training, skills, and understanding of safety, health, and environmental practices
  • Minimum three years of experience
  • Must maintain confidential information at all times
  • Ability to obtain Hazwoper certification
  • Ability to be RCRA certified 
  • Have or obtain an OSHA 30 in first 3 months
  • Have or be able to obtain Ergonomics certification and conduct assessments within six months of hire
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to differentiate hazardous, non-hazardous, and recyclable waste materials
  • Excellent computer skills to include report writing
  • Root cause and corrective measure investigations 
  • Knowledge of workers compensation documentation and tracking, preferred
  • Ability to work hours necessary to support the company goals
  • Works with all other departments and company individuals in a manner benefiting Sypris
  • Must work well in a fast paced environment while being solutions driven 
  • Will require handling of or exposure to chemicals used in the assembly process
  • Occasional lifting and moving of material and fixtures over 25 pounds and up to 40 pounds; infrequent movement of items in excess of 100 pounds while using lifting devices
