Job Description
SUMMARY: 

This position is responsible for originating residential and consumer loan applications and participating in activities, to increase the Association’s share of the local real estate market.  The Mortgage and Consumer Loan Officer works with Customers to meet their consumer and residential lending needs. This person will be critical in leading Rosedale Federal to achieve the strategic initiatives of increasing consumer and residential lending and meeting the Association’s sales and service objectives.  These responsibilities are done within all Association policies and procedures, as well as all applicable laws and regulations.  Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) is required for this position.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Conducts initial consumer or residential loan application interviews with Customers.  Discusses the differences between various types of consumer and residential loan products, terms, and conditions of each loan product, credit criteria, interest rates, loan documentation requirements, and any other consumer or residential related matters.
  • Interviews Customers to discuss their consumer and residential loan requirements, ascertain their capacity to repay, and assess the degree of risk involved.  Analyzes Customer’s financial status, credit and property evaluation to determine the feasibility of granting a consumer or a residential loan. 
  • Counsels Customers regarding all consumer and residential loan related matters.  Counsels Customers for whom consumer and residential loan requests were denied, explaining reasons and alternatives. 
  • Responsible for meeting consumer and residential loan transactions timeframes and production expectations.
  • Provides guidance and support to the retail branch network, by (1) organizing in-person huddles, (2) conducting comprehensive consumer and residential loan product trainings, and (3) providing productive sales and service techniques.
  • Responsible for participating in two community service-related events annually.
  • Performs consumer loan, home equity line of credit, and home equity loan settlements with Customers.
  • Keeps up to date with conditions, in local and national real estate markets, and with changes in rules and regulations (pertaining to both conventional and government-insured residential loans).
  • Provides general Association information and cross-sells services to potential and existing Customers to sell them an Association product or service, when needed.
  • Responsible for compliance, with rules and regulations, including, but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Completes all assigned online or in-person Compliance, Human Resources, and Departmental training modules/classes.
  • Cross train to assist with other duties as assigned.

SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE JOB:
  • Extensive knowledge of residential loan origination activities and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills to work with a variety of internal and external Customers.
  • Strong skills in attention to detail, decision-making, organizing, and planning.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software to include Microsoft Office products.
  • Analytical skills to compare, evaluate, problem solve and recommend.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain internal and external Customer confidence.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma required. Associate Degree (AA) or college coursework in a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) to seven (7) years of experience in residential lending, with some experience operating in a Loan Officer or Loan Officer Assistant role.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time (50%-75% of the time).
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Requires the ability to attend mortgage loan closings in various locations, when needed.
  • Schedule requires time spent in branches, when needed and/or a scheduled event.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate customer needs.
