Job Description
DB Consulting Group, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join the Maintenance and Operations team as a Data Center Systems Monitor & Control Engineer working within our Mission and Operations Integration Section. The successful candidate will ensure that optimal attention is applied to all aspects of MSOC systems “Health and Status”. In this capacity, the H&S Engineer will interface with, and sometimes lead personnel to ensure that the MSOC Systems meet/exceed contract and operational requirements and expectations across the Mission Systems, which include the Mission Control Center Systems (MCCS), Mission Training Center (MTC), and the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility (SVMF). The current architecture includes: MS Windows Servers, Linux Systems, Virtual machines, Cisco LAN equipment and Oracle Databases. Health and Status tools such as SolarWinds are deployed and we may be expanding this to include capabilities afforded by Dynatrace and Grafana - Prometheus. OS Linux Systems Administration engineering support to the Mission Control Center (MCC) Operations and Training Systems within the NASA JSC Flight Operations Directorate on the Mission Systems Operations Contract (MSOC). The candidate will be responsible for maintaining the operations, on-going and new IT Initiatives and upgrades, evaluation for new software, and support for all production, staging, development, and disaster recovery environments.


Additional Duties:
  • Develop and update, in conjunction with the Chief Engineer and Architect, the vision and direction of the health and status functions used to support the MSD facilities.
  • Lead small team (2-7) employees
  • Drive the comprehensive implementation and administration of the Health and Status systems.
  • Ensure the availability of Health and Status functions for the data centers and user interfaces supporting mission and training operations at Johnson Space Center.
  • Responsible for creating, managing and monitoring custom SolarWinds scripts, as well as alerts with custom thresholds, escalation and notifications based on defined requirements
  • Design, build and integrate improvements for the Health and Status solutions to maximize effective alerting within the SolarWinds platform, including alarms, dashboards, and reporting
  • Perform gap analysis for immediate relief on false-positive and non-actionable alerting and provide recommended improvements
  • Provide on-going support, training and assistance to multiple personnel supporting mission and training operations.
  • Manage new software/hardware integration with SolarWinds or other products as needed
  • Provide reporting using existing tools to identify problems and corrective actions as needed
  • Review business requirements and improve monitoring of the Orion Platform
  • Design/Enhance and manage complex alerts, reports via simple and complex conditions or using SQL queries
  • Ensure Health and Status readiness for all required mission activities through the FOD Flight Readiness Review process
  • Maintain section web sites and shared folders
  • Provide administrative management support tasks such as performance reviews, merit planning, career development, awards and recognition, technical and leadership training, travel authorizations, disciplinary actions, office assignments, approval of new hardware and software, etc.

Experience Requirements:  
  • 5 + years of professional experience and specialized training related to human space flight operations, control center and training operations, and/or ground or space network operations
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or experience in supervision or management
  • Demonstrated Innovative problem solver
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to interact across organizations and all levels of personnel
  • Effective handling of multiple tasks and ability to respond quickly to changes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and customer requirements
  • Strong decision making and problem resolution capabilities
  • Ability to support a flexible and dynamic work schedule
  • Familiarity with the Mission Control Center (MCC), Mission Training Center (MTC) and Space Vehicle Mockup (SVMF) facilities Systems at the Johnson Space Center
  • Experience with International Space Station (ISS) and/or other Space operations
  • Knowledge and deployment of SolarWinds, Dynatrace and Grafana – Prometheus
  • Familiarity with Operational “Back Rooms” (Network Ops Center, Houston Voice Control, Support Center, Mission Systems Security Center, Johnson TV, and Training System Operations)
  • Broad understanding of Space Flight Resources Management (SFRM)
  • Knowledge of FOD:
    • Vision, Mission, and Values
    • Foundations of Flight Operations
    • Organization, with a special emphasis on the Flight Control disciplines
    • Mission and Sim scheduling
    • Training and certification processes
    • Console operations standards and practices
  • Knowledge of ISS and other program partners, including international partners and NASA Human Space Flight (HSF) Communications and Tracking Network (CTN) Network Elements (NE)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop personnel and perform succession planning
  • Demonstrated interest and motivation to learn and grow as a leader
Education Requirements: 
B.S. degree from an accredited college
