Job Description

DLZ Corporation currently has a rewarding Project Manager - Civil Engineer - Drinking Water, Storm Water, Wastewater opportunity in our Fort Wayne, IN office. #

Duties & Responsibilities:

    Perform storm, water and wastewater engineering, construction, and design assignments of a complex nature, requiring application of specialized technical expertise performed independent of other personnel; exercise professional judgment in autonomous decisions.
  • Periodically assigned a lead role in segments of storm, water and wastewater design projects where engineering work is to be done; directing assigned personnel, meeting cost and time schedules and producing quality results are primary objectives.
  • Perform work with little guidance and operate in areas where precedents are not clearly established.
  • Perform and direct others in the design of storm, water and wastewater structures, systems and equipment items requiring complicated design concepts and the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Direct engineers and technical support staff in the preparation of plans and specifications for major and complex structures, systems and equipment.
  • Prepare reports and conduct studies of new engineering methods, codes, processes and materials. Conduct complex feasibility and operating studies and studies aimed at evaluating alternative systems, equipment, etc.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Coordinate field activities and construction monitoring.
  • Perform construction phase activities including bid evaluations and review of Contractor's shop drawing submittal.
  • Prepare proposals; establish the scope of work, man-hour requirements and schedules.
  • Business and project fee development in municipal water, wastewater, drinking water, and/or storm water.
  • Review proposed contracts to determine significant parameters, time schedules and mileposts and define the major task areas.
  • Resolve problems and coordinate the final turnover of the project to the client, throughout the project
  • Direct the planning and development of the project scope, procedures, and budget.
  • Ensure contractual commitments are met and the work is being performed according to the client's instructions.
  • Maintain effective relationships with members of all divisions and departments responsible for performing services in connection with the project.
  • Control and/or review all project forecasts, schedules, cost estimates and reports. Responsible for quality control over the complete project.
  • Monitor fees and budgets; report problems to the appropriate Department and/or Division Managers.
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of progress and special reports to staff and clients.
  • Obtain client's acceptance of work, coordinate completion of final project paperwork and preparation of final report.
  • Participate in technical development of personnel assigned to him/her.
  • Directing the planning and development of the project scope, procedure, budget and overall project scope.
  • Perform marketing and client development
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
  • Possess aptitude to act as a positive representative of the company and its core values.
  • Be actively involved in civic and professional activities, societies and organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field
  • 6 or more years experience working with design of drinking water, wastewater and storm water infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration in the state of Indiana or the ability to acquire within four months if licensed in another state.
  • Experience with water, wastewater, and water distribution and collection.
  • Hydrology and Hydraulic modeling skills a plus.
  • Skills with AutoCADD, AutoDesk Civil 3D, GIS, ArcGIS, etc to design Public Works Projects, with the ability to instruct less experienced staff.
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Previous project management experience of large municipal water projects preferred
  • Advance facility planning and preliminary engineering report development experience
  • Construction document preparation and modeling experience desired
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
