If you are an innovative patent agent or patent attorney who understands hematology and wants to pioneer IP in the diagnostics space read on!

This role reports to the Vice President of Intellectual Property, Beckman Coulter, and will be providing intellectual property support to Beckmans Research and Development organization in Miami, FL or Remote will be considered. Interact extensively with Hematology R&D, Program and Product Management and provide counsel and services to ensure that the organization is protecting its innovations and mitigating risk as to third party Intellectual Property.

This role also includes the following opportunity to:

  • Advise, counsel, and actively participate in the development of a strategic, global, Intellectual Property portfolio (including patents, copyrights, and trade secrets) for Beckman Coulters Hematology business, with emphasis on procuring protection of hardware and software relating to Beckmans hematology analyzers.

  • Prepare and prosecute patents.

  • Drive invention disclosure processes with R&D and participate in IP review meetings.

  • Monitor third party Intellectual Property to provide competitive intelligence reports and possible technology opportunities to the business as well as to ensure freedom to operate.

  • Collaborate with Beckman Coulters global intellectual property team on the above.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited university in Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or other science.

  • Prior in-house experience

  • 5-7 years of legal experience in Intellectual Property, with experience in both procurement and analysis of patents.

  • Registered to Practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
