THE OPPORTUNITY

The Assistant Director of Digital Marketing manages the Council’s marketing efforts and is responsible for building and executing data-driven marketing plans and strategies to expand our digital audiences. This role oversees the Council’s email marketing platform and paid advertising efforts. The Assistant Director manages a team of two, reports to the Digital Marketing and Creative Director, and works collaboratively with others on the communications team to advance the Council's mission of exploring ideas that will shape our global future and promote active US engagement in the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Define, optimize, and implement digital marketing and advertising plans to promote Council events, digital programming, and content and to support fundraising efforts.
  • Oversee the Council’s email marketing platform and work closely with a database services team and the Digital Platforms and Projects Manager to integrate it with the Council’s CRM and website.
  • Review digital analytics reports and develop data-driven insights on the Council’s audience segments and their digital journeys to adjust marketing strategies and plans.
  • Help plan, implement, and evaluate creative, paid campaigns including search, display, and social advertising.
  • Consult and advise departments across the organization on promotional strategies and audience development.
  • Collaborate with an internal creative team to develop content assets for campaigns (videos, graphics, ad creative, etc.).
  • Review, edit, and publish web content; oversee the format of email announcements and weekly and monthly email newsletters; manage email editorial calendar.
  • Provide support at Council activities from time to time which require some evening and early morning hours

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5-7 years of digital marketing experience (nonprofit and membership organizations a plus) and a BA degree preferably in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or applicable experience
  • Experience working with CRM platforms (Salesforce a plus), email/automated marketing systems (Pardot a plus), and web content management systems (Drupal a plus).
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics (Google Data Studio a plus).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; previous editing experience and knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style preferred
  • Experience editing and building HTML email templates preferred.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop is a plus.
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and multi-tasking skills
  • A detail-oriented problem solver who shows initiative, can manage multiple deadlines and priorities, is flexible and adapts easily to new situations, and works well independently and as part of a team that values purpose, creativity, collaboration, and solutions.
