Job Description
Biotage is hiring amid COVID19!

Position Summary: Sales/Marketing/Applications support for Biotage products.

This role provides Science support to ensure commercial success of Biotage products in the market as well as customer success for those who utilize the products.  Activities include traveling to customer accounts for demonstration of products, virtual demonstrations, implementing new methods, troubleshooting technical issues, presenting technical seminars and consulting with customers regarding their problems and/or objectives. Activities may be independent or in association with a technical sales rep. This position also helps with technical support by acting as second tier support for incoming calls, emails, etc.

Market segments will include all Analytical spaces including those addressed by traditional Biotage products.

Requirements:

  • Strong Chemistry background with experience developing methods for and processing environmental, food samples in a government or commercial lab 
  • Must have knowledge of customer workflow for markets including environmental (government and commercial testing labs), food and agriculture labs 
  • Must be able to network affectively with key influencers to provide accurate prospecting information 
  • Must understand sample prep chemistries and mechanisms including silica-based and polymer-based phases, in disk and cartridge processing, with use of various equipment and applications 
  • Must be able to prioritize work on a daily basis according to the needs of the Applications Director to support both short term and long-term Commercial goals
  • Must be able to troubleshoot LC/MS and GC/MS methods for a variety of applications over the phone and by email
  • Must be able to use PowerPoint, Word, and other programs to put results into posters and presentations 
  • Must know who the key players are for our markets and understand what the competitors offer 
  • Must exhibit strong skills for time management and project planning and demonstrate the ability to make good decisions 
  • Must speak clearly (English) and be able to communicate findings effectively to both small and large groups, in a professional manner 
  • Degree in Chemistry or similar, plus a minimum of 4- 5 years practical experience in analytical chemistry/chromatography, with significant experience in sample preparation techniques, particularly SPE or Liquid-Liquid Extraction, is required.  Advanced degree is preferred
  • The applicant must have demonstrable customer focused experience and knowledge of current and future needs in an environmental lab, food lab, or other analytical laboratory, working with water, soils, or foods
  • The applicant must have experience with automation of sample prep and the workflow of an LC/MS and/or GC/MS methods


Essential Role Functions:

 

 

  • Work with key customers on collaborative projects either in-house or at the customer’s site with Biotage products.
  • Identify “target” key influencer prospects for Sales reps to act upon
  • Communicate with and network with industry professionals to gather information on specific market segment needs and trends and explore alignment with our current solutions or solutions under development.
  • Serve as second line for application/product support emails and calls.
  • Serve as a resource for Analytical markets, environmental, food, and agriculture
  • Write, prepare and present scientific posters and presentations at trade shows when requested.
  • Perform QC-tests as requested.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for significant periods of time in a laboratory or tradeshow environment.
  • Must be able to work with common lab chemicals and solvents
  • Must be able to travel on plane and by car in US, Canada and abroad

Work Environment:

  • Work at customer sites and in chemistry laboratories Chemistry work performed in a lab setting. The employee will be regularly exposed to various chemicals. Personal protective equipment will be required when performing certain tasks.  Noise level in the work environment is moderate, with occasional loud noise exposure.

Travel:

  • 30% over night travel is expected, primarily US. In addition, an occasional international trip will be required
  • Travel alone and or with sales reps to agency-based customers, new accounts and potential customers to give seminars, assist in discovery of the customer’s specific technical objectives and/or operation all needs and answer technical questions about our products

 This role is not eligible for candidates requiring VISA sponsorship.
