Job Description
Job Title:          Engineering-Applications Manager
 
Job Location:   Scottsdale, AZ
 
Job Duties:
 
Responsible for day-to-day management of the commercial and industrial engineering team. Manage a team of direct reports consisting of Applications engineers and/or Drafts-people. Develop budget and timeline for project management. Establish and monitor project workloads of all engineers. Mentor and develop team members and evaluate their progress and performance. Seek and manage new certification projects to trade in global markets. Analyze technology and market demand (VOC) to plan and assess feasibility of projects. Manage component and system approval projects. Manage existing approvals to better position products against competitors. Evaluate and select suppliers and vendors to ensure product standards will be met. Ensure continuous product development to improve fire system performance. Create processes and quality management systems for engineers to ensure global market compliance. Develop process improvements to better manage development of systems and manufacturing. Design, develop, and test new component hardware. Understand and work with 3D modeling software to design components and create manufacturing drawings. Operate flow calculation software to verify system design. Engage with customers and approval bodies to provide and/or create all required drawings, documentation, and associated design information. Travel approximately 25% for VOC projects, training and trouble-shooting.
 
Qualifications:
 
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Fire Engineering. At least 5 years' experience in the following areas: engineering experience in the fire industry, with demonstrated expertise in fluid mechanics and gaseous system design; fire suppression systems engineered and pre-engineered (creating system layouts and designs in CAD, performing hydraulic flow calculations (to include VdS and Hughes or Chemetron), technical support and quotation); leading and supporting engineering applications and R&D functions; mentoring and training engineers and CAD users in Solid Works and AutoCAD; conducting external training programs for customers and end-users of products and systems; managing ECO and control of engineering documents and drawings; responding to technical, engineering and certification related inquiries from internal departments, external customers, and regulatory agencies on the topics of systems, products, manufacturing processes and product quality; creating and maintaining certification and test programs specifically for international standards; conducting NPD project and managing engineers and support teams with NPD for products and systems of fire suppression systems; providing company wide support to international standards, ensuring compliance and updating process and products as required (specifically the Construction Products Regulation, Pressure Equipment Directive and the ADR); and managing and maintaining component and system approvals specific to the fire industry.
