Basic Function: The Business Development Manager will identify new growth within the company by researching and identifying opportunities within private industry and government agencies. This position will develop and cooperate with operations on new opportunities from adoption to implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify, research, and act upon suitable business opportunities within private industry and government agencies.
In cooperation with operations, oversee the maturation and transition of new business opportunities into operations, including implementation.
Engage and network with regulators and specifiers to initiate new growth areas for the company. This includes research, conference attendance, and committee participation.
Manage all aspect of new business opportunities development process, including lead teams of stakeholders during development of new programs. This includes but is not limited to industry experts (including key staff members), staff teams for financial and operations purposes, and other development teams as required.
Work seamlessly between upper management and staff.
Market and sell new programs to existing and potential new customers.
Promote cross selling with owner(s).
Maintain and develop organizational culture, values, and reputation in its markets in which the company operates and with all staff, customers, suppliers, partners, and regulatory/official bodies.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education:A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. Five or more years of related experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Strong understanding of business development
Strong understanding of marketing
Strong understanding of sales
Understanding of government networking, government sales, and federal contracting
Ability to foster a teamwork environment and interact in a positive manner with individuals from various groups internally and externally
Ability to communicate and interact at all levels of government and industry
Ability to simultaneously manage several projects
Strong program management skill set
Identify, champion, develop and introduce new products
Supply vision and imagination to identify for appropriate opportunities
Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel
Demonstrate sound administrative execution
Working Conditions: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require frequent overnight travel. The location for this position will be in Alexandria, VA, to allow easy and immediate access to Washington, DC.
