Founded in 1847 as a mine operator, Cleveland-Cliffs has been traditionally recognized as the largest and oldest independent iron ore mining company in the U.S. In 2020, we acquired two major steelmakers, AK Steel and ArcelorMittal USA. This allowed us to vertically integrate our legacy iron ore business with quality-focused steel production. Cleveland-Cliffs now has the unique advantage of being self-sufficient with production of the raw materials for our steelmaking operations.
