Job Description

DEA is currently hiring for an experienced Water Resources Project Engineer to support major projects in the Puget Sound region. This position will support DEA projects that focus on improving and enhancing the environment, primarily fish passage. This position will also focus on key long-term programs that require dedicated staff to lead multiple design efforts expected to extend to the year 2030. This position is located in our Bellevue, WA office. The primary focus for this position will be as a Task Lead or Project Manager for a wide variety of Water Resources Projects. This position will require the candidate to utilize their expertise in water resources engineering related projects, including, but not limited to, stormwater facilities design; surface water hydrology and hydraulic analysis and design; floodplain management; culvert and bridge hydraulics; stream, wetland and habitat restoration analysis and design; assist in preparation of feasibility studies and master plans; preparation of engineering and construction plans, specifications and estimates; and coordination with regulatory agencies for project permitting. It will be the responsibility of the position to perform engineering design and to provide a high-quality product to DEA's current and future clients.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment and contribute to the growth of our Water Resources group.
  • Responsible for planning and design of a wide range of water resources systems and facilities including hydraulic analysis for stream crossings and evaluating for fish passage and scour. Responsibilities also include evaluation and design for stormwater and surface water management systems. Sanitary and or potable water design is a plus, but not required.
  • As a stormwater management task lead and engineer of record, collaborate with a team of support professionals, including but not limited to drafters, EIT's, GIS technicians, and technical editors. Responsibilities also include active management of Task specific scope, schedule and budget. Project management experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal stormwater management designs standards.
  • Opportunity to coach and mentor entry level staff.
  • Interface with clients and public agencies on an as-needed basis.
  • Assistance in Business Development efforts (e.g. engagement in professional organizations and visibility efforts), preparing proposals and participating in interviews as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering with emphasis in stormwater management and or water resource design.
  • Registered professional Engineer in Washington.
  • 6+ years of experience as a hydrology and hydraulic design engineer with general civil and water resource design experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD/Civ3D, and or Microstation/Inroads.
  • Proficiency with stormwater management design software including HEC-RAS knowledge/experience.
  • Technical memorandum and report writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of experience as a hydrology and hydraulic design engineer with general civil and water resource design experience.
  • WSDOT, stream restoration, and fish passage experience.
  • Registered Engineer in Oregon, Idaho, or California.
  • Familiarity with GIS.
  • Storm and surface water master planning is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microstation Inroads Storm and Sanitary, CivilStorm, StormShed, MGSFlood, SWMM, HSPF, SRH2D, FLO2D, HEC-RAS (1D and 2D), and HY-8
  • Obtained WSDOT's HRM certification
